The 5 most popular comments this week

1. Short and sweet got Em Ní Mhurchú into the top spot this week with 2,793 green thumbs. She was responding to the New Zealand police report about the guy in the picture above.

Mortifying!!!!!

2. The world was shocked by the Taliban’s massacre of 132 children at a Pakistan school on Tuesday. There were 2,138 thumbs up for Phil O’Meara who said:

So the Taliban are targeting children in retaliation for army activities? What a morally bankrupt group of evil, ignorant lunatics.

3. David Hogan gathered 2,131 votes for his gag about the Saturday Night Show interruption last weekend.

What a racket nearly woke the viewers and audience up.

4. TonyFlynn read a Business Insider article and wasn’t impressed. He got 2,129 green thumbs.

What the f*co did I just read?

5. Another comment from Dan Higgins on the New Zealand police mix up got 1,666 thumbs up.

You’ve got that right! How did that make sense to drive like that?! Fu€king eejit!

The top 5 articles which received the most comments this week

1. Court proceedings started in case of pregnant woman on life support (421 comments)

2. Leo Varadkar thinks our abortion laws are ‘too restrictive’ (405 comments)

3. Gunman dead, two other fatalities as police storm Sydney siege café (352 comments)

4. The same-sex marriage referendum will take place next May (321 comments)

5. Poll: Do you agree that our abortion laws are too restrictive? (313 comments)

The big issue

This week, it was revealed that a pregnant woman who is ‘clinically dead’ is being kept alive at a midlands hospital because doctors are unsure if they are legally allowed turn off her life support. Claire Finnegan takes a step back and looks at the situation.

The poor family having to deal with the death of their daughter and now having to decide if they will keep her on life support whilst doctors scramble through the courts trying to get a decision. No matter what your views are on abortion, only a fool would support the ridiculous system we have here in Ireland. Doctors have no idea what they can and cannot legally do and families are faced with questions and decisions that they shouldn’t have to deal with. There is no good outcome here. How sad.

Laugh of the week

Lily gave us the best inexplicable laugh of the week when we asked her whether she had a star or an angel on the top of the tree.

I have a star. But since im not religious it holds no value to me. It just looks pretty.I don’t believe christ was born on Christmas day so really not a symbolic thing either.I had Santa on top of the xmas tree for years until his head fell off one Christmas. ..

Standout comments of the week

Amanda Burns-Ring really has the Christmas spirit nailed. What a lovely gesture this is.

I got one [a Frozen doll], and I’m giving it to my local Refuge on Christmas Eve so some poor little girleen will get some sort of pleasure in there. All very well making your kiddies happy getting all they want on Christmas morning but I will get a good feeling that I have given bit of comfort to what is a horrible situation to be in. Please don’t red thumb me, I’m not looking for praise-just saying they helped me so many times when I was in dire situations. It’s so lonely and upsetting never mind trying everything to keep your children from crying

There was a lot of love for Metro Herald guys and girls this week. Denis Reidy sums it up:

Had to stay in Dublin 3 days a week last year. The smile, paper and well wish were greatly appreciated, and somedays the only nice thing about the morning. Will be missed.

Our hearts broke for pilcandy. We hope you get some cheer this Christmas.

That made me cry. I wish I could see my family this xmas. I wish that was me. I hope you all really appreciate being with you love ones on this holidays. There is 8 people in my heart. 6 of them haven’t get to hug over 5 years. Stupid expensive plane tickets.

A chef told us this week that he was offering his home and cooking skills to a family in need this Christmas. After we highlighted his good deed, Neven Maguire said he would supply a food hamper. Here was biamhaith’s original comment.

I have worked hard all my life, I fell ill and had to leave my profession as a chef so am now a mature student. 150 of my 188 goes on rent, I can’t get rent allowance as I was unable to find accommodation that was under the cap nor a landlord who accepts it.
I don’t really drink, though would like to have a few now and then, all my money goes on living expenses.
I’m loosing my home after Christmas and have no options open to me at this stage (mum, who would have helped passed away 3 weeks ago) other than homelessness and god knows what. I’m a 41 year old man who is genuinely terrified for my future right now. There is no help for single men like me. I’m a regular guy like most others, I am educated to a high level, very smart and very willing to work, yet at 41, I am on the shelf with very little hope for the future right now. This could easily happen to any one of you as it has to me.
I do not matter to this government, none of us do. If we did things like this would never be alowed to happen. They could fix this yet do nothing while genuine people suffer in ways we never thought we would. I’m scared right now really scared, not just for me but for my country and what this government and those past have done to our beautiful Ireland and it’s people.

If anyone has a job I’m a great worker, a genius with food, have great reviews (can’t be a chef, bad heart :-( ) I’m also brilliant with computers, have a very good understanding of cisco networking, can build systems and maintain them etc. Ideally I would love a job in the food industry or something in computers where I could learn but would take anything going that will pay for a roof over my head. I can be contacted on twitter or Facebook
I have room at my table for two more who are in need and alone this Christmas, I will be cooking up a storm on the day so let me know via Facebook or Twitter if you are alone and want to join me and a friend for dinner xmas day.

Trump looking to promote publicity for yet another family member.

He’s a conflict of interest in literally everything he does and it’s all financially motivated. This sort of stuff was unheard of a few years ago but he’s normalised it.

    Let’s be clear,
ITS ABSOLUTELY NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOUR FOR A PRESIDENT

    @Tarquin Donovan:

President Donald Trump and his allies have called his win a “landslide” and “blowout.” From their telling, Trump’s “sweeping,” “historic” victory has given MAGA a “powerful mandate” to govern.

Some commentators have pushed back, noting, for instance, that Trump’s 1.5 percent popular vote victory is one of the smallest ever — just a fraction of Lyndon B. Johnson’s 22.6 percent landslide win in 1964. Trump failed to secure a majority of the popular vote, at 49.7 percent, unlike George W. Bush in 2004 (50.3 percent), Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 (52.9 percent and 51 percent) and Joe Biden in 2020 (51.3)

Spot on, that is exactly how Trump portrays news on so-called truth social media.
Sadly, we are witnessing the Hitler of our time.
He has an agenda, much of it needed by way of reform of a fxxed up dying empire.
But he is a malignant lier, with not one thought beyond personal enrichment.
