Mark Little is stepping down as head of the news agency he set up

However, the former RTÉ journalist will be staying on as director of editorial innovation.

FORMER RTÉ JOURNALIST Mark Little is stepping down as a CEO of news agency Storyful.

It comes almost a year after the company was acquired by Rupert Murdoch’s media giant News Corp for €18 million on December 20.

The organisation’s Chief Revenue Officer, Rahul Chopra, will take over as CEO.

Little will stay on with the organisation as director of editorial innovation.

“My primary goal when News Corp acquired Storyful a year ago – almost to the day – was to turn our scrappy little Irish start-up into a well-resourced and well-run global company,” he wrote in a blog post, noting Storyful now has offices in Dublin, New York. London and Hong Kong.

But I also needed to guarantee that our integration into News Corp would not compromise our values or our vision.

“Once both of those goals were achieved, I planned to step aside as CEO. That time is now.”

Little has been at the helm of Storyful since its inception in 2010. Previous to this he was best known as Washington Correspondent, and later Prime Time presenter, at the state broadcaster.

Storyful tracks breaking stories and viral videos online.

Verified content is then licensed for use by media organisations, including the BBC, The New York Times, Al Jazeera, and Vice.

“We are in the final stages of a project with the Studio 20 team at NYU to identify problems and solutions as we build an ‘agile newsroom’,” Little said in the blog post.

He also noted that earlier this year the agency partnered with Facebook for the launch of FB Newswire and FB Techwire.

The company announced last month that it would be setting up a research and development centre in Dublin, creating 30 new jobs.

@Stephen Harding: Besides the spelling do you agree with him or not?
I’d agree with him BTW a politician taking responsibility for their actions is unheard of in this country……

And yet he still did not say sorry ….. perceived is not sorry. Disgusting this happened and I hope there is a criminal investigation to see how these people were killed. From the company making the product to everyone who thought money and not people were more important to be saved.

It might be an idea to replace this chap by someone with a single surname.

@Mick Tobin: Yes, you can imagine how his double barrelled surname, plummy voice and that infuriating “cut-off from reality” aloofness must really antagonise people. His thinly disguised contempt for the survivors is nauseating.

@Brendan McLaughlin: glad it wasn’t just me that picked that up. I lived in Kensington as I’ve said in other posts and there was always an arrogance in the ‘Vicar of Dibley’ council there. Yes he resigned (eventually) but only after last night’s farcical ‘public meeting’ where he tried to exclude the public and media from the public’s council meeting. That was overturned by a High Court Order but by then yet another dreadful act of disregard for the deceased, injured and lifelong suffering ahead for so many.
Here in Urekabd of course, the Government would profess endless confidence in the same circumstances a-la Garda Commissioner & nobody would even think of resigning. God no.
