Man charged over robbery of armed cash-in-transit van

A man was arrested and a van found burning nearby.

Updated 4.35pm, 20 December

GARDAÍ IN DUBLIN investigating an armed robbery of a cash-in-transit van yesterday morning have charged a man in connection with the incident.

A member of the CIT staff received minor injuries during the robbery.

Today, gardaí said that a man in his 40s will appear at Dublin District Court in the CCJ this afternoon, charged in relation to the robbery on Cork St, Dublin 8 at approx 7.40am on 19 December.

During the robbery, a number of men who were believed to be in possession of a firearm threatened the security staff and demanded money. They left the scene with a sum of money.

The man was arrested by gardaí a short distance away from the scene, and a sum of money and a firearm were recovered.

The man was detained at Kevin St Garda station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

A van believed to have been involved in the robbery was discovered on fire yesterday at Dublin’s Barn Green, along the canal.

Gardaí in Kevin St were appealing for witnesses, in particular at the scene of the robbery.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity prior to the robbery or who may have seen people fleeing from the van on Dolphin’s Barn Green is asked to contact Kevin Street on 01 6669400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

No. 1 – The headline basically says ‘normal weather expected’. I usually get annoyed with the ‘How is this news?’ crowd. But, really?

No. 2 – It says cold, then the article says it will be from 7-14 degrees.

So, where is all the Globull warming then? Do you know that Oisin Coughlan’s Irish branch of Friends of the Earth gets 400,000 euros of you money every year. For nothing in a country with such poverty.
