    Awful, awful awful.

    Deepest sympathy to the families.

I hate the MD planes. They’ve been involved in a fair few decompression incidences, and had numerous problems with the structure. American airlines uses them and Iv never used AA since. They are terrifying planes to be on. I hope they take them off the market soon, Especially if this tragedy turns out to be something to do with the model.

I saw the aircraft involved about 4 weeks ago, here in Ireland, it looked immaculately maintained for an 18 yr old airframe. I don’t think it was a decompression, because it just suddenly dropped off radar. There could be a problem with the internals of the aircraft, possibly the T-tail, which has happened before, but i think i will wait for the official reports. And AA are replacing the MadDogs with A319′s currently.

And they have been off the market for years, but they are becoming rare in Europe.

And let’s remember why they were re branded from DC to MD – mainly because of the DC10.

Well main reason was Douglas Aircraft Corporation was bought by McDonnell, but the DC-10 was nicknamed the death chariot i think

Yeah the whole company got a bad rep. But Christ how many accidents does it take in order to remove faulty aircraft. I know the DC10s are out of service thank god- but the Super 8 is terrifying to fly on. Was on it last year to Florida and it got caught during a storm that AA knew was coming, but decided to fly through anyway. The plane got bashed around and couldn’t land because it couldn’t line up.

People where praying. It was awful.
If this does turn out to be another design flaw, they need to get rid of them all.

They are just old, i wouldn’t like to fly AA, they aren’t the best, but the MadDogs aren’t all bad…. I wouldn’t mind going on one again, but i have never had a bad experience on one, but there shouldn’t be a design flaw, and if it is, they won’t be taken out of service unless the fix is too expensive.
