Woman rescued after getting lost on Bray Head

The woman suffered no injuries in the incident.

A WOMAN IN her 20s was rescued after becoming “lost and disoriented” on Bray Head yesterday evening.

At around 5pm yesterday evening the 22-year-old woman contacted the Garda Control Centre saying that she was lost and disorientated with her surroundings on Bray Head.

Gardaí immediately contacted their colleagues at Bray Garda Station and the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team. The Irish Coast Guard Rescue Team from Greystones were also involved, as were the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue team.

Contact was maintained with the woman via her mobile phone and the Garda Air Support Unit was called for. The woman was asked to turn on a torch which she had to help the helicopter find her.

The ASU found her using their own light and remained overhead to allow the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team to reach and rescue her.

The woman was taken into the care of the Mountain Rescue team, having suffered no injuries during her ordeal.

On Bray Head you can easily end up accidentally going down the south side instead of back into Bray, and go several miles without hitting a road.

Here’s a tip Seamus: if you’re lost on a mountain, stay where you are – you might end up in more danger by moving the wrong direction.

Here is a tip. Don’t be an eejit and go hillwalking when its dark. Unless you’re a complete idiot everyone knows it gets dark early this time of year. Putting rescue services lives in danger to save them seems to be a past time for these eejits…… Accidents happen but this was just complete and utter idiocy.

It’s that time of year when every numpty and their granny decide that a walk up the hills and mountains would be lovely. But Please folks, be careful. Plan your route and your timing, Never go alone, and if you have not done night time or bad weather navigation stick to the roads. This time of year we can go from crisp clear light for miles to 20m visibility in minuets

Trails are very poorly maintained on Bray Head. It’s a shame as it could be a much more popular walking destination rather than just climbing up the main route. There are actually many other routes through the woods if you know where you are going.

She was by herself? Not a wise thing to do if u don’t know the area and don’t have proper tools. Glad she is ok though.
