Funeral of woman taken off life support to take place today

The High Court ruled on St Stephen’s Day that doctors could withdraw life support for the woman.

THE FUNERAL OF the woman at the centre of a right-to-die case over Christmas will take place today.

The High Court ruled on St Stephen’s Day that doctors could withdraw life support for the woman, who was brain dead after a severe trauma. She had been 15 weeks pregnant at the time.

A case was taken on behalf of the unborn, but the High Court was told that “from a medical viewpoint… there is no real prospect” of the foetus surviving.

The woman’s family – and the father of the unborn – wished for the current treatment to be stopped so they could lay her to rest.

The court paid tribute to the woman’s father and partner for their “immense courage and fortitude in dealing with the catastrophe”, one that was compounded by having to come to court to give evidence.

Don’t think this should be a news story. This is a private affair and the family deserve privacy at this stage after all they have been publicly put through. Rip.

Your missing the contradiction of his comment. My point is that his comment alone makes the story less private as it invites discussion on whether or not the story is news worthy and should be kept off the news. If people want to talk about this on the journal, that’s fine, but don’t take part in it and say, ” this should be kept private ” !, if you believe that, don’t comment on it !.

This young woman’s death made all the more worse by this country and its backwards law. She should have been allowed some dignity. RIP young lady and may your family find some peace in the future

Close the comments, the poor family may read some of the awful things people say on here. Just let them rest in peace and grieve privately.

Glad to hear that this unfortunate woman can finally rest in peace. Also that her family can get the closure they need and deserve.

What was done too both the woman and the family was disgraceful and discussing. No mersey, no compassion.
At least the court showed some and has set a precedent for future cases.
