Irish people could be holidaying in some pretty strange places next year

New flights in 2015 will include Ethiopia, Jamaica and Cuba.

FROM NEXT YEAR Irish holiday makers will have a range of exotic new locations more easily available to them.

New direct flights from Irish airports will mean that previously remote destinations could become realistic holiday spots.

The new routes will include flights to Cuba, Ethiopia and Jamaica – places that currently require connecting flights to reach.

New destinations

From June of next year there will be a direct flight between Dublin and the Ethiopian capital city of Addis Ababa. It will take place four times a week and shall be operated by Ethiopian Airlines.

The airline will be displaying at the Holiday World Show next months and are hoping to sell Ethiopia as an accessible destination for holiday makers.

This will see the first scheduled flights between Ireland and African continent and follows agreements made in November by President Michael D Higgins and Minister for Development and Promotion of Trade Seán Sherlock when on a State visit to the country.

The deals signed opened up travel and ensured that business transactions between the two countries would avoid double taxation.

Cuba

The new flights will also see a direct routes opened up between Ireland and Cuba. This follows the reopening of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba earlier this month.

Irish tourists will also be able to fly directly to the Caribbean Island of Jamaica – with a new flight expected later this year.

These new destinations will be on display at the Holiday World Show at the RDS from the 23rd to the 25th of January.

“the first scheduled flights between Ireland and the African continent”? What about Ryanair’s flights to Marrakech — or is Morocco not in Africa anymore?!

Poorly worded.. although to be fair.. North Africa is not real Africa.. You need to cross the Sahara to see real Africa. North Africa is just sand and Arabs.

Direct flights from Africa? Now asylum seekers won’t have to fly to London or Amsterdam and then ask directions for Ireland.
