Grab your shorts, we might get a 'heat wave' this week

Irish Weather Online’s forecast says that temperatures may reach the 20s this week – even up to 27 or 28°C in the southeast.

WHERE HAS THE Irish summer been? Hiding behind a cloud, that’s where.

But it looks like we might get a brief taster of summer weather this week – although nothing like the record-breaking temperatures experienced in the USA this week.

According to Peter O’Donnell at Irish Weather Online, many places in Ireland could reach 23 – 24°C today if the sun “cooperates”.

Tomorrow, weather in the eastern and central counties could turn from cloudy to sunny with highs of 23 – 27°C, and highs in the west of 18 – 23°C.

By Thursday, the temperature could reach 21°C, nicely gearing us up for a weekend of sun, with sunny Friday promising highs of 20 – 24°C.

Saturday, says the site, “may be the warmest day of the period” with some places maybe hitting 27 or 28 degrees centigrade around the southeast of the country.

The warm spell will continue through Sunday and, apparently, onto the beginning of August, before the inevitable mid-week showers start again.

So grab your shorts, sun-cream, hang sangwiches and beach parasol and make the most of the brief sunrays that we might get this week.

AccuWeather.com shows a completely different story, with a continuation of the cloudy, showery, occasionally sunny mix we have had for the last month.

Oh dash it, here I had fond images of hanging bread on the line to be toasted by the sun whilst a little choir of angels sing their joy at the brightness of the day! ;). Thanks for educating me the two Aoife’s, it would be a sad day when you don’t learn something new!

Forgive my pessimist outlook but since April Ive been waiting for a few consecutive days of sunshine. To no avail, I take any weather forecast with a pinch of salt as no one seems to get it right.

A pretty well-known joke-spelling/pronunciation based on some country pronunciation of the word. (I don’t know where from or if anyone ever really says it for real.)
