A Song for Lily-Mae via Facebook

Celebrations as little Lily-Mae is declared 15 months cancer-free

The young Claregalway girl is taking part in a drug trial in the US.

LILY MAE MORRISON is just six years old, but she’s spent a significant part of her young life battling cancer.

Now the young Claregalway girl and her family are celebrating the news that she is officially 15 months cancer-free. A recent scan brought the good news, her mother Judith said on Facebook.

Lily-Mae was diagnosed in 2012 with neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. Her family has raised more than €400,000 to help fund her treatment in the US.

Part of the money was raised through sales of a cover of Elton John’s Tiny Dancer, which reached number two in the Irish charts.

Anxiety

“‘Scanxiety’ never goes away, the fear always hangs over us, but hoping & praying for clear scans in a few hours,” Judith told Lily-Mae’s supporters, as they prepared to find out the results of her daughter’s scan.

The family had journeyed to the US, where they met the researcher who discovered that a substance called DFMO destroys neuroblastoma cells.

Lily-Mae is currently taking part in a DFMO trial, which will run until 2016. The family will have to journey to the States every 12 weeks as part of the trial.

On New Year’s Eve, Judith said that their only wish for Lily-Mae in 2015 is that she “remains cancer-free”.

K firstly we hit 22 deg for the first time this year I reckon . Secondly those two women pictured in this sub tropical heatwave are wearing cardigans as well as one of them drinking coffee!! Thirdly this poor child who was obviously thrown into a shallow pool for the photo pic, his mother is also dresses for the cold. So heatwave its is not. Normal weather for this time of year, maybe

I was in the water with a wet suit and gloves. The sun did make a difference but when I got home; I did need to take a long shower to thaw out.
