Is Micheál Martin doing a good job? We asked a TD who could succeed him...

Mayo TD Dara Calleary spoke to TheJounal.ie yesterday.

DARA CALLEARY INSISTS he does not wake up every morning thinking he wants to be leader of Fianna Fáil.

The Mayo TD was speaking during the course of a wide-ranging interview with TheJournal.ie yesterday when we asked about the doubts around Martin’s leadership.

Calleary is seen as a future party leader along with the likes of finance spokesperson Michael McGrath, but he insisted:

“I don’t wake up every morning thinking: ‘Jaysus, I wanna be leader of Fianna Fáil.’”

He also gave us his assessment of the job Martin has been doing since he took over as leader in 2011:

That’s worth saying again Justin – who cares? Who really cares?
They should be ashamed of the name Fianna Fáil…as should Fine Gael and the cretinous Labour Party now.

Johnny, remarks that are so obviously true provide no addition to a debate. A donkey would do a better job than SF. I apologise if I have offended any donkeys or donkey lovers.

DARREN CALLEARLY,f you honestly believe think the majority of people trust Miceal Martin and FF promises and commitments then 1) you are in the wrong job or 2) You are misinterpretting the peoples responses.
FF is a toxic brand! They are a party of liars and self serving leaders who have been proven to be corrupt to their core.

It’s very clear that people care an awful lot. Some still want to punish Fianna Fáil and resign Fianna Fáil to the history books. Some others hope that Fianna Fáil can change and will provide a new leadership or vision for the Country. Toxic as the brand may well be, Fianna Fáil is very relevant and are currently on 18%. Fianna Fáil emerged as the largest party after the locals. A week is a long time in politics a lot can change.

John McGuinness is the most credible. Why is he never mentioned in leadership punts. Many a cross the Dail and in the Senior ranks of the Public Sector are afraid of him so he struggles for support. He takes on all the sacred cows. They all get nervous. They can’t control him.

If he struggles for support within the party then he has no chance of being leader. That’s probably why people don’t mention him.

McGuinness has hinted on several occasions but has done nothing. It’s a case of crap or get off the pot! There is not one interested in taking the leadership. He can do all the political posturing he likes but unless he makes a move he’ll not know what kinda support there is for him.

Nobody wants to commit to been the leader of the party with the spectre of getting beaten by Sinn Fein in the next elections looming large.
. I would imagine it will be a case of let martin take this hit and then throw your name in the hat for the rebuilding job.
