It was inevitable... Storm Rachel jokes flood Twitter during Ireland's status red

Code red… this is a code red…

IRELAND IS ON red alert, but we Irish like to find the humour in any situation.

While some counties were battening down the hatches, some were taking to Twitter to poke a little fun at Storm Rachel (and Jennifer Aniston).

On the other hand, some were genuinely pretty scared that the world was possibly ending.

Others were wondering what all the fuss is about.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the storm:

We wonder if Jennifer Aniston has picked up an increase in her photo being used online and the fact it is being linked to a storm in Ireland?

A few people are wondering where exactly Storm Rachel is?

So, what is it where you are? Is the apocalypse outside your door or is it a fine day out? Here’s what to expect in the coming hours

Code Red: Weatherman warns that ‘the roads are a dangerous place’ right now>

Your Pictures: Gorgeous snow blankets country but motorists face meltdown>

Is it just me, or has Met Éireann whipped up a media frenzy about ABSOLUTELY NOTHING today?

Is this a decoy for something? — quick, somebody check what the Government are up to today while our backs are turned..

Its slightly more than absolutely nothing, 17,000 homes without power sounds very much like something to me.

That’s a teeny tiny fraction of the population. They needn’t have dragged the entire nation into the frenzy. S’grand here in Dublin.

Winding_down 17,000 people is hardly insignificant, if it was the same amount of people in Dublin without power social media would be ablaze. There is a sizeable difference in the climate between the West and the East, the West gets a lot more wind and rain and when storms hits the west coast it hits very hard.

@fiachra29: IF the same amount of people in Dublin were without power social media would probably be dead – along with the phone chargers!

I live on the west coast in Kerry and we are getting battered since yesterday evening. Unsafe to be out in it. Don’t worry people in the Capital I’m sure it will have burnt itself out by the time it gets to ye!

Winding_down, the entire nation wasn’t dragged into a frenzy, Met Eireann specified the counties that would be worst effected and they were right. Apologies if yourselves in the capital got a bit nervous about wind on the West coast.

Not really pauric, I’m in Sligo and I’ve seen a lot worse, schools closed for no good reason. In my day we’d put stones in our pockets on a windy day! :-)

4 heavy panels of a high garden fence fell down right where the kids would have been heading in the school gates in Sligo, so glad the school was closed.

Come on Climate Change, you can do better than that. Noonan et all are probably crying that this storm didn’t flatten the country – they can hardly justify a 5c carbon tax increase now can they? can they?

The driving conditions were pretty dangerous last night. It didn’t sound windy, but you’d get random gusts pushing the car to one side, and you still wouldn’t hear any wind. If you’re on a motorway it can be pretty dangerous, so I’m glad I had a bit of warning.

People assume that everywhere else in the country is grand just because the eastern counties are not getting hit as hard. Cudnt get my car off the driveway yesterday because of a foot of snow, had to dig for 30mins and saw multiple accidents due to the snow. Had a half hour delay to work because Foyle bridge was closed today. The majority of schools in Donegal are closed today. Met eireann are protecting the interests of the entire country by issuing these warnings.
