Billionaire flies his two nannies to Davos, tells Americans to "have less things"

Jeff Green made his fortunes betting against sub-prime mortgages.

AN AMERICAN BILLIONAIRE who made his fortune betting against sub-prime mortgage securities has told Americans to ‘lower their expectations’.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Jeff Greene told Bloomberg that Americans needed to “reinvent their system of life”.

“America’s lifestyle expectations are far too high and need to be adjusted so we have less things and a smaller, better existence.

“We need to reinvent our whole system of life.”

Wealthy Candidates In 2010, Greene unsuccessfully ran to become the Democratic candidate in the Senate race in Florida. AP / Press Association Images AP / Press Association Images / Press Association Images

Greene owns Florida Sunshine Investments, which manages $2 billion in assets. He said he flew his wife, children and two nannies to the ultra-exclusive forum.

He went on to say that, despite the US unemployment rate being at a seven-year low, the American economy was in such turmoil that radical politics was to be expected.

“Our economy is in deep trouble. We need to be honest with ourselves. We’ve had a realistic level of job destruction, and those jobs aren’t coming back.”

Greene added that he is having dinner with Tony Blair tonight.

I’m sorry but this case Is done and dusted it’s been before and put through one of the worlds most rigorous legal systems in the us and not only that but they also have the most technically advanced criminal investigation systems so I’d say it is very unlikely that they’ve missed out on anything.

@Joe oshaughnessy: I agee that the legal team knew exactly what they were doing and what exactly was needed for successful prosecution. We all wonder about that brick being in the bedside locker but i think they didn’t even need that to win. Once it was shown that he was battered at least 10 times on the back of the head while he lay on the ground and Martins earlier admision that he “hated’ his son in law among other things, was enough to prove murder 2 and disprove their self defense claim. But this case is not over. A conviction is not the end of the case. Appeals and appeals…

    Yes
Lucky the jury agreed with the prosecutor .
In todays Irish Times its transpired that the prosecutor was considering first degree murder on that basis alone .
That would assume (I take it ) that this was the first blow i.e. she hit him while asleep head down with as much force as she could muster which would be premeditated .
Anybody out there who is supporting this appeal should ask themselves one simple question .
When is the last time you seen anybody with a concrete slab for company in their bedroom .
Im sorry but I think if thats the case her husband I think would have asked, why ?
Im sorry but the more I think about all of this the more I think it was premeditated as did the prosecutor .
They just were not sure it would carry .

In The Irish Times Sat 12th August 2017 ,and I quote .
Go Get Funding has deleted reference to domestic abuse .No evidence was produced to support such allegations ,and Mr Martens himself told the trial he did not witness any physical violence between Mr Corbett and his daughter before .

@Cecilia Byrne: ‘Irish people are ridiculous sometimes in thier concept of the justice system’s…. Irish people fully understand the concept of justice, and in the case of Molly Martens Corbett and her father Tom Corbett, in my opinion justice was served.

Jason Corbett was in the opinion of many individuals who knew him both professionally and personally was an honest, decent hard working loving and caring father, who wanted nothing but the very best for his children, and that in his opinion, did not involve entrusting them in to the care of Molly Martens Corbett.

Your original comment is also an opinion based on no facts only hearsay. There is numerous facts that disprove the testimony of T.Martens. Not forgetting MM refused to testify. In your opinion why would you think she would do that?

This is part and parcel of any trial. There will always be people who believe in the innocence of their friends and relatives, and that’s their right. Personally, I believe the right verdict and sentence was passed down and I hope the appeal fails, but I’m not going to complain that people are using legal mechanisims at their disposal to fight it.

I’m generally against censorship, unless in very exceptional circumstances, in this case I think it should be allowed. To ban it may make martyrs out of them and allow any supporters to claim their innocence, allowing conspiracy theories to claim cover up’s of their alleged innocence to go on for decades.
Allowing the funding to go ahead, but carefully monitoring the wording, will prove a fool and their money are easily parted and dispel any theories about a cover up or their alleged innocence.
While their families will never forget this, in a year or two the rest of us will move on to the next killer in the headlines and forget them.

No matter how unpalatable this seems to us, It is their right to pursue an appeal against their conviction, that is how the system works. If people want to fund it, it is their money to spend how they wish, and whilst it we may see it as foolish and even vile, there is nothing to prevent them spending it on funding an appeal.

The appeal itself will more than likely focus on some aspect of due process, legal principles employed by the Judge and/or evidential procedures followed by law enforcement officials, the defense team will attempt to argue that the law was not followed to the letter and hence the conviction is unsound. I very much doubt there will be any new ground breaking evidence.

Extract from ABC2020 Prog where the Martens did a pre-trial interview which was only released post-trial, and available here yesterday, painted a very neg picture of her life with victim.

Specifically, the audio recordings, if real, of the couple arguing and content of interview with the children was very disturbing.

In that interview, Molly and Tom came across, as rational, intelligent, educated and decent. So why didn’t Tom, with his 31 years FBI service, just advise his daughter to instigate divorce proceedings if her life with Jason was so unbearable.

Had he taken this path, Jason and kids would be back living in Ireland, Molly and Tom wouldn’t be serving 20 to 25 years in jail for murder, and kids could continue to at least have some relationship with their step-mother.

@Cecilia Byrne: Cecilia, maybe that’s because your comments come across as trolling. An example would be an earlier poster, Niallers, who knew the man and his family personally and affirm that he was a good person generally whereas you state you didn’t know him but make comments questioning his character. You have no evidence or clear reason for saying this it appears other than to have a “different ” opinion just to get reaction. You should remember a man lost his life in horrific circumstances and all actual evidence points to this woman and her father doing this in a premeditated fashion. It’s a terrible thing and real people are affected by it. You’re entitled to your opinion if it’s genuinely held but it doesn’t appear that’s the case. It looks like you just want to hurt people.

And if they can’t afford lawyers, their friends & family have a right to try to raise money to pay for the appeal.
