Don't expect Michael Noonan to smile about his tax cuts

A smile from the Finance Minister wouldn’t go amiss.

UNSURPRISINGLY, FINE GAEL is lauding the modest tax cuts introduced by the coalition in last October’s budget.

People who are getting paid this week or next can expect to see a small boost to their pay packets and Fine Gael has produced the video below in which Finance Minister Michael Noonan explains some of the changes.

Unfortunately while there’s lots of practical details and advice from the wise old man of Irish politics there is very little smiling.

In fact, there’s really none at all:

Fine Gael / YouTube

Ah come on now, Michael. Tax cuts are surely something to smile about?

What about Christine Lagarde? Surely her glamour and sophistication could put a smile on your face:

As good as no reform has taken place and best of all this shower made no difficult choices as you like to put it. They only applied the Trioka program that FF set up. FG/Lab have been in tatters since the FF/ Troika plan finished stumbling from one controversy to the next. Now like the previous government they are trying to buy the electorate with pathetic little incentives.

The problem is that they didn’t take any difficult decisions did they? They promised to, but the minute they won they bowed down to the troika and made us all take it up the A*se. The difficult decisions would have been acting on the mandate they were given at the GE by the people that elected them… Instead they handed over the keys to the Dail to the troika (agents of the bond holders) and stuck their noses in the trough of expenses while creating the biggest, most corrupt quango in the history of the state and stuffing it full of their mates. While focusing on those least able to pay being forced to pay for those most able as usual.

The answer is a big fat YES, because with Ireland having the Euro that means that all our finances are taken out of our hands and done by the Germany government. The reason is because we share the Euro and use it but we never own it, so all our finances are done by a third party the same ones that control the euro. Always after or with monetary union there is always “political union”, the word for that is Federation and that is next?

The reason why Michael Noonan isn’t smiling about tax cuts is because he doesn’t really believe in tax cuts. Michael Noonan is not a pro-enterprise Minister for Finance. He is a life-long public sector employee, he had (and still has) a permanent job as a schoolteacher before he went into politics, he has no understanding of or empathy with the small businessperson or the entrepreneur.

Tax cuts mean that the public sector gets to commandeer less of the money in the country overall (even though it will receive more money as the economy grows), as more money is used instead by the private sector to create growth and employment in the nation. Tax cuts mean that the public sector controls less of the economy as the private sector grows. Therefore, Michael Noonan instinctively drags his feet and puts roadblocks in the way of real pro-enterprise reductions of the enormous burden of taxation in Ireland.

This is why it was a real shame that Richard Bruton’s heave against Enda Kenny in 2010 failed, because if Bruton was now in control of the Department of the Taoiseach (or maybe the Department of Finance) it is arguable that the Government would have been far more pro-active in terms of reducing the anti-enterprise, anti-growth and anti-employment tax burden in our country.

What you have to remember about this creature is that when the Troika rolled into town in every other country except Ireland he was very much part of the set-up , and we have the National Media reports of Enda running as a spy for the Troika during the Bailout …getting info of Blabbermouth Beverley and then running back to the troika to reveal Ireland’s position – why Fianna fail did not highlight this before the last election tells one all one needs to know about Ireland’s Troika Partys.

Jaysus he is scary… What a great government we have, they promise not to do more cuts on people but they just create new high taxes like property and water charges as well as talk about compulsory health insurance for everyone and expect us to say that they are great. Do they take us for being so stupid?
