HE STARTED OUT as a researcher, and on Monday Anton Savage will step up to the mic for his own primetime show on TodayFM.
The station announced earlier this month that the presenter will step into D’Arcy’s shoes after Ray decided to return to RTÉ.
The three-hour Anton Savage Show will kick off at 9am on Monday 26 January, and TodayFM says that it will be “fun, cheerful and well informed”, with a mix of celebrity guests, human interest topics and “discussions that make you think”.
A “great honour”
Anton, who’s 37, said that the new show is a “great honour”, and that he and his team have big plans for their slot.
Today FM said that the announcement of Savage’s appointment prompted “a massively positive response from listeners”.
Anton comes with plenty of experience – he has already presented The Ray D’Arcy Show, The Last Word and The Sunday Business Show on Today FM as well as The Apprentice: You’re Fired! on TV3.
Since 2011, he’s hosted Savage Sunday from 11-1pm on Sundays, taking that slot to its highest ever ratings. His new show is sponsored by Toyota.

Mairead and Jenny were the reason I stopped listening to Ray’s show, it was the Ray D’Arcy show not the Jenny and Mairead Show.
I wonder if he has had to make a huge checklist about things he cannot mention about Denis O’Brien – known as the Sam Smyth list.
Moriarty Tribunal is also on that list as is, Independent newspapers unless it`s in a favorable light.

anton savage is only marginally eclipsed by ryan tubridy where family connections, career ambition and lack of talent make things happen.
That said, anyone who SHOULD be on the telly needs to wake up and work for it.
Shocking how the land renowned for the gift of the gab pretty much relies on Graham Norton and Dara O’Brian to give the legend any credibility.

Got it right first time, although what sinn fein listen to is of no interest to me.
I like Anton Savage, he seems a good guy and a competent broadcaster and also a petrol head who knows what he is talking about…but there is a dark cloud in my mind and it plays on my conscience, isn’t he a “filthy blueshirt”? Did he coach Dear Leader Indah on his state of the nation deliveries and Carr communications of the 5 point plan?
Someone please say it isn’t so and then I can ease my internal strife in time to tune in on Monday

Yep he coached inda on how to talk etc just goes to show what a dope inda is,Imagine a man nearly twice as young as the leader of our country teaching him about speeches.

No martin, that was a previous incarnation that Carr communication coached everyone from politicians (of all parties) to priests, dodgy businessman and anyone who would by in difficulty in front of the media, but mainly to RTE. Carr was owned by Bunny Carr, but was ran by Anton’s parents. They doesn’t like doing it for others, so set up “the communications clinic”, and Anton here was made a director and consultant, responsible for coaching FF, FG and again anyone going on RTE. This was helped by Savage senior being controversially appointed chairman of the board of RTE (the same board that pre-emptively paid out money to Iona and others for the non-illegal panti affair). Anton’s consultancy company was also at the centre of a high profile fatal bullying allegation recently (not widely reported by CC customers in the media).
So with that baggage, you will forgive me for not tuning in.
Oh, and he sounds as smug and conceited as Tubridy – not my idea of fun. Get someone young who enjoys radio and you will have a listener, not just an audience figure.
Excellent synopsis Alien8, this guy made his name coaching corrupt politicians how to lie to their electorate. You could say his family are prone to deceit…

Ah come off it, while I did listen to Ray and Co in the morning’s he was getting more and more up his own arse pontificating.
What killed it for me was when Jenny was on her last day the man was basically crying on air, like for feck sake it wasn’t like she was going to Australia forever and he would never see her again, and when he offended Cathal Pendrend during his interview just after winning his first UFC fight.
Used to love Ray, but he got this soap box a few years ago and it went down hill from there

Looking forward to it, think he ll do a great job, I can’t switch over to radio one to follow ray, I ll miss will most of all, he s a gas man.
I’d say it would be well worth a listen for a day or two or maybe longer. It’s a little bit heavy getting offended/aggrieved/shocked etc by the guy BEFORE he begins. Give him a few days and then get offended/shocked etc. if you feel you must. Savage is a clever chap who has done well filling in for various presenters. Whether he can carry a full show on a long-term basis remains to be seen.
I’m fed up to the boll#cks of the lot of them, I’ve left Irish radio behind and I’m not going back! Adios baby!
