Fiona Doyle: There are women out there who facilitate the rape and abuse of their children

Fiona revealed today that her life story is being made into a film.
THIS MORNING WE locked up a monster. He took what he wanted from me and ignored my tears and pain and satisfied himself. He’s now gone back to where he belongs.

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Fiona Doyle said she was raped and abused by not only her father but also her uncle and her Dad’s friend- who are now both deceased.

She claimed that her uncle died just a few days after admitting to abusing her.

Separately, the mother of five says questions should be asked about her mother’s involvement in what happened to her.

“There are women out there who facilitate in the rape and abuse of their children and they should be brought to justice for it.”

Fiona Doyle’s father Patrick O’Brien was sentenced to an extra six years in jail this morning after receiving a revised sentence for his daughter’s rape and abuse over a nine year period.

The abuse began the night before her First Holy Communion in 1973.

So Many Tears

Fiona Doyle also revealed plans for her story to go to film saying she wants to change people’s attitudes.

I want it used as a platform. I want it to change people’s attitudes on child abuse and to stop the silence and underlying acceptance that has been going on in this country.

“I want to point out the battle a victim has to go through to have their voice heard.

“Too many victims out there have not had their voice heard and I’m so grateful I’m one of the lucky ones who is sitting here today.”

Information about the film, So Many Tears, will be posted on its Facebook page at 9pm tonight – including who has been cast as it’s already is production.

She hopes the profits made from the film will be used to set up a new charity, the Fiona Doyle Foundation. “It will be a house where victims can come to seek solace and just talk to another victim.

That’s the plan and if I have anything to do with it it will happen.

Doyle said she has spoken to somebody who was abused every week over the past two years and it has really helped her. “Sometimes you just need to speak to another victim.”

Missing his fire

When asked what her parents’s reaction to the new sentence would be, Fiona said:

“If I know my mum and dad, my mother will be happy because she’s not getting him back and life’s a lot easier for her, there’s no demands on her. There’s no ‘get me cigarettes, drive me here – drive me there’.

My Dad is getting well looked after. He’s getting waited on hand and foot – he’s getting the best of healthcare…all he’s missing is his fire.

However, Fiona said she has taken back control and that’s what she will do from now on.

The nightmare is over and it was worth it.

A truly terrible story of the most despicable acts perpetrated against this woman, her strength is to be commended and I hope this verdict gives her some peace. I personally think the Mother should be jailed also but hopefully the shame of her past is enough punishment.

Despicable. Sorry, typo. Either way, why should gender matter? Man or woman, I could justify 1000 lashes for this crime.

I do find stories like these shocking on whole different level. I dont get angry about them or seek revenge in my mind. I just feel my heart sink & the feeling of hopelessness when thinking about what this lady went through. It just turns me cold to the core to think that humans can be so cruel.

Her mother knew about it? sickening, what a strong woman. Btw, why do judges take health and age into account and surely the former judges competence should be brought into question?

It’s because prison affects people differently. A night in prison might give you nightmares for years but to a hardened criminal it would be nothing. Also giving a year to a guy in his 80s is obviously a much higher % of his remaining life than a guy in his 40s. Prison also has a deleterious effect on the health of older raping paedos

Suzanne. Why did you say her mother was a strong woman.?. A strong woman would have put a knife in him when she found out he was abusing her child. I know i would gladly kill anyone who did that to my children. She was and still is a weak pathetic specimen of a woman and to allow it to continue, she is just as guilty as her vile husband. And i would love to hear what her child thinks of her today. I wish only the best to Fiona and her family, as she starts her new life as a surviver. And i hope she finds the closure she deserves.

I dont think so. If child abuse does not always shock and sicken a person there is something amiss.

I found Fionas story devastating. I am still trying to figure out the mothers part. Has she been damaged that badly by her husband or is she just as evil as him. Either way she should get as much punishment as him. Imagine not helping your own child! Its pure evil.

While Fiona went through one of the most horrible and abusive experiences,we should only see her as a victim during those experiences. What she has done,in making sure that b@stard will hopefully never get out of prison and her plans to help other people being abused, makes her a courageous survivor in my eyes.

How a mother can turn a blind eye out of love or fear of husband is vile, she is as culpable in the horrors experienced, shame on her,how she could look her daughter in the eye is beyond me,there’s no more words to describe that beast,as bad as he is fiona is the polar opposite,a powerful force who will change attitudes in Ireland,a heroine, tower of strength and an absolute inspiration to others to speak up now, take back the power

Well if the shock value wasn’t diluted why did it take so long for the legal system to increase his sentence. The effects of what he did are as bad as murder as the horror this woman has to live with is unimaginable.

All respect to brave Fiona. Was’nt there another ghastly case , where an 11yr old gave birth to her father’s baby, on the kitchen floor? This poor girl’s evil witch of a so-called morher, then tried to gas the newborn & when that failed, she stabbed it to death, with a knitting needle!!! That little baby was found, but the baby she had the following year, never was. That (now adult) girl got no justice, because the 2 beasts responsible, conveniently died.

People just don’t care. Even the value of someone’s life is nothing. Stories like this are so common place that the shock factor of such horrific crimes has become diluted. It just seems jail isn’t enough.

Willy I disagree. I can read some of the details of this case. Im putting that down to an inability to process the wicked actions of men like these. Every time I see one of these cases my blood goes cold. I just cannot understand the make up of the mind of men like these.

The fact remains than many abusers never face justice because the child/children in question are often so ashamed or fearful to come forward.
Many abusers have went to their graves without anybody been aware that the nice neighbour next door preyed on his own offspring or extended family.for years.

It takes great courage to fight the shame and come forward and out the predators, for this I commend Fiona wholeheartedly and maybe her story will encourage others to come forward and see that justice is served.

he should be more concerned for the victim and all other victims of such crimes.
Amazing woman comsidering what she has gone through. Hopefully she can help others who need to come forward.
