Ad nauseam angry “help the homeless” posters continuously spitting out their anger in so many posts against nearly every article. Why don’t you get your thumbs and tapping fingers out and organise continuous protests on the street or helped with the homeless yourselves? That would make the difference. Thumbs up and comments here and likes on Facebook is just a complete waste of time, bandwidth, is misguided and not good for the environment (https://www.statista.com/statistics/580087/energy-use-of-facebook/). Get out into the real world and show how angry you are, you’re doing no good here!

But none of you will do anything in the real world, we all know that!

@Whoswho: you fool. Front of house might be digital but hotels are one of the most labour intensive types of business. Great news, the jobs are broadly spread as well. Don’t forget a lot of ongoing maintenance painting and decorating etc. In the future.

We need houses more than we need hotels. What we have is so piecemeal at the moment. Someone buys some land and then decides what to do with it (hold it, build apartments, houses, luxury houses, student accommodation, offices, hotel). What’s needed is a plan for the city that takes in housing needs, hotel and business needs in a large scale strategic way.

@lambda sensor: there is a Development plan for the city 2016 to 2022. The Minister for Housing had driven a coach and four thru the plan with his strategic development
Provisions and the National Dev Plan. Board planala disregards the plan in large measure and the officials on Dublin City Council have also ignored the plan when it suits them. City councillors who approved the plan tend to stay quiet about the ignoring or breaches of the plan. So no more plans please that mean little or nothing .

Does no one else fear that we are going to be stuck with ghost hotels in the future? Or is this part of the bigger plan to house people?

That wasn’t thought out very well. The old Big Tree pub on the junction of The NCR and Dorset Street is being turned into a hotel, and id guess the people who drank in it when it was a pub will still go there out of nostalgia.
