Good point George. That should be the headline here. “WTF four mayors?” Get rid of three of them (at least)and use saved salaries and 30 year pensions to fund inspectors to go around and fine these low lives who let their dogs sh*t everywhere…

A question about that number: what actually happens when you ring it? Do they send someone out with a machine to clean the streets? Is it someone on empathy duty, going “I know! Isn’t it disgraceful all the same?!” Is it a supergrass hotline where I can report Bernie from number 5 for not picking up after her two Jack Russells? If it’s *that* option, what kind of proof do I need to supply? A photo from my mobile? A doggy stool sample?

In all seriousness, I really wish the various local authorities would actually *do* something about this, would actually *empower* people – whether the ordinary citizen or designated officers – to take people to task. As it is, you risk a battering if you have the temerity to tell anyone to pick up after their mutt. I think it’s part of a wider law-and-order issue. We Irish people pay lip service to the notion but actually get quite narky when it starts to affect us personally.

Since the dog fouling laws came in at a cost of 500.000 there have been just 3 prosecutions nationwide. If they seriously wanted to stop this problem there are cameras on most beaches where people drive to walk their dogs.

We need to phone and let them know about renegade dog fouling you got to be kidding me, how about most parks, footpaths, football pitches, beaches, any sort of patch of grass generally has dog sh1t on it. St Annes Park in Raheny is where I walk my dog(and I pick up after him, always carry & use nappy bags) leave the footpaths at your peril cause its a minefield(there is a ton of renegade dog fouling and nothing is done about). I would be completely embarrassed not picking up after my dog but the sheer brass necks of some people, I just love when they are walking generally with there dog off the lead and there pet takes a dump and they get straight onto the mobile and ignore waht there pet has done

I really wish people would stick to the point here, which is an excess of dog shite rather than an excess of mayors.

The problem is, how is this going to work? Most of the time the people you see allowing their dogs to foul the street are complete strangers. How do you report someone you don’t know?
