MICHAEL HEALY-RAE has said that a “soft approach” cannot be taken when dealing with thieves.
The independent TD said that many people in rural areas are left more exposed to criminals due to the closure of Garda stations.
It has lead to a rise in crime and nobody can tell me that the statistics are right and that crime in on the decrease: that’s rubbish. Ask any rural person living in Ireland – criminals are roaming around the countryside now, looking for easy targets.
Healy-Rae said that proposed changes to firearm licensing show the Government is “going after legally held guns” rather than illegally held weapons.
The Kerry South TD, a gun owner himself, said that many “highly respected” people he knows own guns for various sporting and hunting reasons.
To own a rifle or a handgun or a shotgun, you have to be a responsible person. You have to be vetted by gardaí.
Healy-Rae said that while nobody is advocating shooting thieves, homeowners are allowed to exert “reasonable force” when a burglar enters their property.
He said a serious message needs to be sent to criminals, adding that he “wouldn’t be sorry” if a criminal went “home in a box”:

Healy-Rae said the Fine Gael Labour coalition is “one of the most anti-rural Governments since the foundation of the State”.
The TD said the Government is facilitating the “demise of rural Ireland” in many ways, particularly by closing post offices.
They’re doing nothing to protect the rural post offices and this is like the elephant in the room. We’ve over 1,000 post offices, and we could lose 500 of those.
“Could we not wake up as a Government and look at what happened over in England? They lost thousands and thousands of post offices. Now they’re sorry, but they can’t go back. You can’t get back what you lose.”

@Raymond Scott: Because at present Pfizer are charging €20 per jab and suddenly there vaccine won’t protect you for long without more shots. I don’t fancy getting multiple jab’s a year and increase Pfizers profit’s. If they really cared about helping mankind and not there profits they’d sell the vaccine at cost price.
@Tom Doyle: They’re more likely going to target a booster every 6 months, Israel are already planning their rollout for the 4th dose.
@Rochelle: A fourth jab is looking likely for those with an immunecompromised system, For the rest of us, I’d say it will be a yearly jab, which I have a zero issue with.

@Peter Willekens: These are the most tested vaccines ever and the boosters are small tweaks to attack the new strain.
They are based on older vaccines which have been tested for years.
Its not like they are mixing up chemicals and hoping for the best.

Why did they tell us last year that children don’t get covid and can’t pass it on?
What was the average age of people who died last week from covid and their vaccination status?

@Ann Reddin: Not a great example. This guy was a bodybuilder which means he was more than likely taking illegal drugs in order to achieve the bodybuilding look. People have funny perceptions of what being healthy means. Like plenty of people on here will think they are healthy for taking the vaccine and then will go and drink and smoke themselves silly thereby putting their immune system under duress. But apparently its absolutely fine to do this once you take the vaccine.

66 years old, still waiting for a text appointment from the HSE. Tired waiting, so I went to a walk-in clinic and got sorted.
@Declan O’Farrell: Great, well done you. I keep hearing of people getting three appointments assigned to them while others can’t get one set up yet. It’s like booking for Newgrange on the solstice.
@Fiona Fitzgerald: Its the HSE system and not the hack, just the fact their IT system is terrible and has been for years.
@Declan O’Farrell: Yep my sister went for her booster last week and she was telling the nurse that her daughter with type 1 diabetes was waiting for her appointment and the nurse told her that my niece doesn’t need an appointment, she can attend a walk in. She was in the car waiting for my sister so she went in and got it rather than waiting.

@Gary Kearney: I’m eager to get it done so I can donate blood a fortnight later. I think the booster is more important but the timing is tight. I’ve been asking loads of pharmacies for the last few weeks and I finally got an appointment for a booster next Tuesday in a local pharmacy. Delighted. It was so frustrating waiting for the text. Meanwhile the vocal minority are still rabbiting on boringly about sheep.
@Ann Reddin: Good going! Now that they have a supply, it’s bound to make a difference to January’s rate. No one wants to be sick over Christmas, that’s for sure.
It’s not true that people who got a booster at a walk in clinic will not be sent a request to book a gp appointment. I received a txt, even though I notified my GP I had the booster. I was told at the walk in centre that they were not updating info to the appointment system.
@Marie O’Neill: I literally just got a test message from the HSE to say I should attend a walk in centre to get my booster. I’m not even eligible for it. Got my 2nd jab start of August and had COVID a week later. So I would be due my booster until February. System is messed up

Got my booster today. I’m delighted. I had rang the HSE number and because I have an underlying condition I am on the list and my condition was confirmed and they said I’d receive an apt ” within the next few weeks” . However I decided to check my to website to see if my cohort was being done there and low and behold it said anyone aged 16 to 59 with an underlying condition could book their apt. I wasted no time and that was Monday and today I’m all done. I think I can enjoy Xmas just a little better now. My mum is in her mid 60s and heard nothing from HSE so went to walk in centre. If anyone hasn’t heard or got a text would be worth your while checking your gp as some are doing it for certain cohorts of their patients or else some pharmacies also are doing boosters to those eligible. You could be weeks waiting for a text from HSE.

(My GP is only doing people over sixty, but I got an appointment with a local pharmacy next week, so glad to have a date and time sorted out.)
It is possible people are not going for their boosters because they have gotten Covid and have recovered, even thought they have been vaccinated. If you have gotten Covid you will not be given a booster for several months afterwards. That is what our GP told us, now that we have gotten Covid we will not be given the booster for approximately 9 months.
The Government are telling us the vaccines don’t work! They have closed nightclubs that only vaccinated people are allowed into..
Already ‘fully vaccinated’ with the 2 jabs. Wont be having a 3rd or 4th thanks.
Interesting – replied separately with REJECT , Reject, and even “Reject”, and got unknown keyword for all as had got booster from GP and then offered vaccination centre appt.
Oh, for the love of toast. BUS TXT worked better than this. It’ll all balance out eventually.

@Joed: Yes. The Journal had an article on that – If you got Janssen, you can get a booster three months later. It’s recommended.
