Man shot dead 'may have been under surveillance' by killer

It’s reported that a hitman may have lain in wait for 36-year-old Darren Falsey before shooting him.

Updated 9.27

A MAN FOUND lying dead in a pool of blood at his home yesterday may have been under surveillance by his killers, according to reports.

Darren Falsey, 36, was shot dead at the house where he lived with his partner and child in Carrigaline, Co Cork. His body was discovered by his partner yesterday afternoon when she returned from a shopping trip.

According to the Irish Independent, gardaí are investigating the possibility that Mr Falsey was the victim of a gangland hitman. Officers are understood to suspect that the killer may have been keeping watch near the house and approached it as soon as Mr Falsey’s partner had left.

The Irish Examiner also reports that gardaí believe the killer may have been lying in wait for some time. Mr Falsey was known to gardaí, with one source telling the Irish Times he was a player in the Cork drugs scene and was involved in supplying large amounts of cannabis and cocaine. One possibility is that the shooting was related to a drug debt.

Mr Falsey was unemployed. He had been out shopping with his partner and their child earlier in the day, but she dropped him home at around 2pm. It is believed he was shot up to three times in the face with a semi-automatic weapon.

RTÉ reports that Mr Falvey’s body was removed from his home at around 10pm last night, and a post mortem has been scheduled for later today. Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have information to come forward and have scheduled a press conference for 12.30pm today.

Is he not about 96 anyway ? 3 or 4 years to end of appeal process & that’s if all goes well for the government. I’d just tell him no more Botox or facelifts & that he can only have women within 5yrs of of his age at his bunga partaaays!

Three years? The Italian justice system is a lot slower than that. In fact, in a lot of cases, lawyers say openly that their defence strategy is just delaying proceedings until the statute of limitations is reached.
