Are Irish DIY shops stocking up on Fifty Shades bondage props?

Holy crap.

moviemaniacsDE / YouTube

NORMALLY A TRIP to the hardware store would be last on a list of sexy things to do.

Unless you’re masking tape connoisseur Christian Grey of the best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey, who likes to stock up on cable ties, rope and other DIY items for his bedroom pursuits.

With the film coming out this weekend, one hardware chain is a little worried that it might be inundated with requests for Grey’s favourite items.

B&Q sent out a memo to staff telling them to prepare for a rise in demand for rope, cable ties and tape, the Telegraph reports.

The kind-hearted chain has even supplied copies of the erotic novel so that staff can brief themselves on the sexual potential of DIY material.

But what about in Ireland?

When we asked if the memo also applied to B&Q Ireland, the company told us:

B&Q remains committed to serving our customers in all their DIY needs and we strive to prepare our staff for any enquiry. Customer satisfaction is always our number one priority.

But if the other Irish stores we spoke to are anything to go by, not all of them are stocking up to satisfy people’s post-Fifty Shades bedroom desires.

Expert Hardware has 45 stores in Ireland, but according to its spokesperson, it won’t be sending out a memo similar to B&Q’s.

“We have regular meetings and we haven’t had any feedback [on the film],” said the spokesperson.

At Arro’s head office, the staff member said they were not warning staff of the possibility of extra requests, “not that I know of”, though she was familiar with the hardware scene in question.

“Oh, I remember that bit,” she said when TheJournal.ie described what Christian Grey was stocking up on in the hardware store.

Woodies in Cork hadn’t heard of any memos going around their chain either.

So. If you do fancy a visit to the local DIY store for a spot of shopping after watching Fifty Shades of Grey , we’d advise you to be quick. Just in case.

Laters, baby.

I seen Barnardos run a fantastic online safety programme for kids. They do it with schools and with parents, which I believe parents need to know more about this also. Here’s a link to it on their website…. http://www.barnardos.ie/osp

The Journal is one to talk about cyberbullying. If someone disagrees with you here they can call you every name under the sun, as long as their views are ‘liberal’. I’ve seen people here wish death on others for not wearing a face mask or for perceived ‘racism’ and getting hundreds of likes.

@Billy: You’re spot on Billy, people just come here to abuse people, I’m sure of it. There is no way they would open their mouths in the street. Children aren’t learning Online Bullying from themselves.

@Billy: Right or left it’s all just shouting into the back of digital cupboard, the type of country we’re building is one of chips on shoulders, resent everyone, sue where you can, blame game, remember when the ‘Irish were a friendly, welcoming people?’ well that is clearly not what the majority of us want anymore.

Bullying can be absolutely crushing and even moreso when the victim doesn’t have solid support at home and among other friends. Parents aren’t familiar with each other like we used to be. Devices create even more opportunities for bullys where the victims most private spaces at home are no longer a sanctuary.

Just sad to see that the bullying rates of the reviewed countries are the highest over here.

I’m just wondering if parents are aware what their children doing online.

Why does it take Facebook so long to remove hateful and vile comments and videos. What is wrong with them and when you do report something that goes against community standards they than tell you it doesnt. So a video of someone being hateful and using absolute obscene laungauge to another person and being a bully seems to be ok in FB eyes
