Is this weird Sony contraption better than Google Glass?

Yet they’re not exactly stylish, are they?

GOOGLE GLASS MAY have gone back to the drawing board, but that hasn’t stopped other companies from entering the fray.

Sony is the latest company to do so as it’s announced the developer programme for its SmartEyeglass. Similar to Google Glass, the smart glasses superimposes text and visuals in front of you without obscuring your vision, and only works with compatible smartphones.

The glasses use a monochrome green display to display information, has a 3MP camera for photos and it has an estimated 15o minutes battery life when used continuously.

Yet the style leaves a lot to be desired. Both the name and the glasses are geeky and don’t have a control panel or touchpad like Google Glass built in to control settings. Instead, it comes with a separate controller (connected via cable), which is where the battery, speaker, microphone and touch sensor for navigation is located.

Sony is positioning the device as suitable for both corporate and consumer situations, citing examples like step-by-step maintenance instructions at a repair shop and highlighting certain data when watching a game of football.

The device is available to pre-order in the UK, and Germany (with the US and Japan to soon follow), but Sony is hoping to expand it and offer it to enterprise customers in a number of other European countries. The device will cost €670 excluding tax and will be on sale in ten countries from next month onwards.

looks like utter crap. its still got a controller so it’s like wearing a phonescreen on your face while still carrying the phone around in your hand. also if that’s the font color they go with, they might wanna rethink it. couldnt make out some of the letters at times.

I remember about 20 years back the small town I lived in did not want cctv installed in the town as it’s too invasive. These days you can’t pick your nose without someone filming it

Google Glass is not gone, they’re moving it from their experimental division to their production division. How have the media got this so wrong?
