Confirmed: Ed Sheeran is playing Croke Park

The announcement was made on Ryan Tubridy’s 2fm show this morning.

ED SHEERAN IS to play Croke Park this summer.

The gig will take place on 24 July, the singer confirmed to 2fm’s Ryan Tubridy this morning.

Sheeran said that after his recent ‘Storytellers’ concert in Whelans he “just felt like I needed to play in Dublin again this year”.

Tickets will go on sale next Thursday 26 February at 9am via Ticketmaster.

Making the announcement, the English singer said he had never been to Croke Park before but had “heard the most amazing things about it”.

“They don’t do many concerts so I never expected to play there.”

Sheeran also recently played at the Grammy Awards and has booked three mid-July gigs at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Seems like a really nice guy so more power to him, but I find his stuff incredibly bland and boring. Don’t see what all the fuss is about at all. Definetly not suited to a stadium.

I’ve no doubt he’ll sell tickets, it’s just his music style isn’t suited to a stadium. Ac/Dc, Springsteen, dare I say it, Garth brooks, would fill the stage, create atmosphere and are more suited to stadium gigs.

If the answer to all of those questions is no (and I have a sneaky feeling it is) how about you stop worrying about everyone else’s taste in music. Obviously their life is far from dull and quite exciting (for them) as they get to go and see this ‘repackaged version of James Blunt’ aka Ed Sheeran in concert, the only person who’s life seems to be dull is yours if all you have to worry about is the fact that people don’t have the same ‘decent’ (none of us really know if it actually is??) taste in music as you.

Ed Sheeran. He is going to fill Croke Park. He seems a nice lad. I will not be there, I have a funeral that day.

Says it all about the state of music that a guy who looks like a student who just rolled out of bed is considered a rockstar. Zero charisma for a stadium gig. Blandness prevails.

Most rockstars look like they’ve just rolled out of bed and a lot of them also look like students. I’d say Ed Sheeran would take that insult as a compliment.

I love Ed Sheeran’s music generally but his gig at the O2 left me a little…blah. Didn’t get the buzz of the night and it all seemed a bit rushed!

Nevermind the fact that there were huge groups of young’uns rat arsed drunk and causing trouble and getting thrown out!

Local residents got a list of events in a newsletter from the GAA this week(ours yesterday), along with a list of the projects that benefited from the Croke Park charity fund and a reminder to sign up for the ticket lottery. This concert wasn’t on it. I remember my first thought was “This reads like buttering up for something”. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there’s an attempt to add more concert nights this year.
