In pictures: ISPCC casts Jedward in a new light

The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children is set to launch a new campaign on Monday, but posters have already sprung up around Dublin City Centre.

A NEW ISPCC campaign features Jedward as you’ve never seen them before.

The posters portray the duo with cuts and bruises to their faces, and the slogan “imagine if every child knew that nothing can ever happen that can’t be fixed by someone who cares”.

Other well known faces like Westlife manager Louis Walsh and actress Saoirse Ronan are also taking part in the series of posters.

An ISPCC spokesperson has told TheJournal.ie that the campaign will be officially launched on Monday. It’s not yet clear if it will extend beyond the posters.

Jedward, aling with Saoirse Ronan, Westlife, Louis Walsh, Brian O’Driscoll and many other well-known names are ISPCC ambassadors.

The ISPCC’s recent ‘I Can’t Wait Until I Grow Up’ campaign featured a video which some felt went too far. A Journal.ie poll revealed that the majority of people felt that the video, which depicted violence against a small boy to be “graphic but real”.

I’d have to agree. I had to read it 3 times to really grasp what they were saying. Aren’t taglines meant to be short.. Like "helping children find those who care" or "let someone who cares know" … Good on the jedheads though. :-) fastly becoming my favorite non-selfish Irish celebrity.

actually it isn’t they’ve done plenty of other events for childline and many other children’s charities as well as animal welfare charities. As well as being an inspiration to many of their young fans to over come bullying and believe in themselves!

Unfortunately, if any young lad behaved the way those two do with monotonous regularity, in a school environment, they’d have the shit bate out of them before the bell rang.

Happily for them, society is somewhat more tolerant, in parts at least.

Of course it shouldn’t happen. Unfortunately though, we can’t police adult society, let alone what happens behind the bike shed.

Would you honestly see those two lasting long if they brought their, shall we say, uniqueness to bear on either living away from home (they tried that on a TV3 show, complete with safety net, and almost blew up a fridge), or an inner city schoolyard?

@Danny Maybe not in this instance as Mr Walsh is clearly involved in the project but this is something that they genuinely care about. The animal charity they worked with said that the twins had approached them. When they did a project with Banardos the guy who runs that organisation could not stop gushing about how great they’d been to work with and how great they’d been with all the kids.

I also know from anecdotal and personal experience what lovely, kind and thoughtful guys they are, Louis Walsh can’t engineer that sort of thing – it’s just who they are.

Good idea, well meaning, executed with all the panache of Alan Partridge interviewing the McCanns.

(Louis Walsh, really? They couldn’t bring the twin goons to drop their mongo-quiffs just once? And who wrote the flippin’ slogan?)

Fire the person who was tasked with making what is a very good concept, reality.

The Saoirse Ronan one has the best tagline, but lacks any visual impact, she looks almost normal, and the image isn’t going to make anyone stop and think. The Jedward ones are elongated and cry out for obvious gags regarding their music. Louis Walsh as usual, is never backward in promoting his brand, even if he’s totally out of his demographic…

Are we supposed to feel worse by seeing Jedward with bruises that some child we don’t know? Is this taking celebrity culture a step too far? The previous posters had a lot more impact on me. No celebrities necessary., really. And I agree, the slogan is too long, and too complicated. A short simple message would have been enough.

The reasoning behind using faces that are not only familiar to children, but of those who are admired, is to encourage them to be interested in the cause, or even more importantly to speak out if they are suffering from such abuse, I would think.

And yes, Jedward were ideal choices, given the demographic intended. Again, who thought Fr. Louis was a good idea?
