Some protesters gathered outside the Fine Gael conference - and a journalist was asked to leave

AROUND 170 PROTESTERS have gathered outside the Fine Gael national conference in Castlebar this afternoon to protest against water charges.

The protesters assembled in Market Square in the centre of the Mayo town before making their way up to the Royal Theatre where a number of people addressed the demonstrators.

The protest appeared to be organised by the People Before Profit movement with several people wearing luminous PBP branded bibs and councillor Brid Smith among those present.

There were numerous banners and a Sinn Féin flag was also flown by one protester.

Several of those present addressed the crowd including Smith, who accused the government of trying to prevent peaceful protest.

As a number of journalists came out from the conference to cover the protest, Newstalk’s political correspondent Paraic Gallagher was asked to leave:

1 in a million chance of dying
You’ll be mildly entertained to find all the ridiculous things you have a greater chancer of dying from
    Canoeing 1 in 10000
    Bungee Jumping 1 in 500000
    Scuba diving 1 in 34000
Just flat out swimming is 1 in a million so keep away from your local pool
Driving is a rather every one in 6700
Dancing at a party 1 in 100000 so better to stay seated
    I could go on

    Not again ffs.
Remind me again, how many of the 35 million died in the UK after receiving the Astra Zenica vaccine? This is crazy. We’ll never be vaccinated at this rate. It’s just been a bloody shambles from start to finish as predicted. I’m just so sick of this government and the HSE

@Joe: Does the Pfizer vaccine cause blood clots?

Pfizer’s Covid vaccine has been linked to more blood clots than AstraZeneca’s, according to the vaccine’s data.

Information from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK suggests more people have reported blood clots after a Pfizer vaccine than with the AstraZeneca.

Up to February 28, there were 38 reports from about 11.5million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine – compared to 30 from 9.7million AstraZeneca doses.

    @Joe:

UK Government data showing number of deaths due to COVID vaccine can be found here, Table 12, month on month: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/datasets/monthlymortalityanalysisenglandandwales

0 deaths. Zero. None. Nada. Nixi. Zilch.

But to your point, they’ve only administered the first shot to 32 million people and the second jab to 5 million of them, so nothing much to learn from there, anything could happen. Like, spontaneous combustion, zombification, you name it.

How does NIAC arrive at its conclusions? For 1 in a million fatalities, that would be five in Ireland.

That decision only makes sense in the context that the program is one of routine, like measles (or would it?), but certainly not with an ongoing pandemic.

I find it really hard to believe the projections of extra deaths caused by rollout delays from blacklisting AZ, between more infections and missed treatments from strain on health resources, somehow comes to a number less than 5.

Though I’m sure NIAC didn’t calculate this number either.

@K C: It looks that way do it not that the people in NIAC are trying to jeopardize the vaccine rollout I think its a political thing against AstraZeneca as its part British. The British have shown up the EU for what they are and it proves that the EU without Britain is a muddled mess.

Surely all we have to do is look at the data of our neighbours to see how effective this vaccine is..and unfortunately a couple people may be fatally ill from taking the astrazeneca vaccine, but the incidence rate is 1 grain of sand minuscule enough to plough ahead..its baffling how everything is so cautious when pharmaceuticals were literally given indemnity to produce and we stop delivering at something with such a slight chance of happening

EU paying higher price for Pfizer vaccine, Bulgarian PM Boyko Borissov reveals

The EU will pay a high price for a new deal with Pfizer-BioNTech for future vaccine supplies, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has revealed.

Borissov, speaking on Sunday, said the EU was negotiating the new contract at a price of €19.5 per dose, way above the €12

“The prices are going up quickly,” Borissov said during a trip to a village in southern Bulgaria.

“Pfizer’s price was €12 euros, then it increased to €15.5 euros. Now for 2022 and 2023 the European Union contracts are being signed for 900 million vaccines, but already at a price of €19.5″.

Reuters reports an EU official involved in talks with vaccine makers as confirming the price cited by Borissov for the new contract but said negotiations had not been wrapped up yet.

The new contract would cover variants, meaning that the companies would offer enhanced shots if mutations of the coronavirus became prevalent, a second EU official said.

Borissov said: “Roughly this will cost €18 billion euros, at least … That means that in the new budgets financial experts should earmark bigger, much bigger buffers for vaccines.”

Risk of blood clots 0.0004% from AZ….risk of blood clots from taking oral contraceptive (‘the pill’) 0.05-0.12%. Oral pill prescribed all the time (to U60′s!), sometimes for years due to low (acceptable) risk of blood clots. AZ suspended for all U60′s despite negligible risk & just 2 doses to be administered…risk of catching Covid-19 16.5%….over reaction is an understatement!!
