Manhattan surrounded by ice is the craziest - and most beautiful - thing you'll see today

You thought we had it bad?

Winter Weather A boat makes its way through ice on the East River in New York AP / Press Association Images AP / Press Association Images / Press Association Images

RIGHT NOW IN New York, it is -6 Celsius, but feels like -10.

That’s cold. Really cold.

Cold enough for the water surrounding the island of Manhattan to freeze.

Luckily for us, the pictures are absolutely stunning.

Temperatures in the Big Apple will rise above freezing today, but will fall to minus eight overnight.

Ice surrounds the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge on the East River

Some reasons Shligo is so great

    1. Some of the the worlds most breathtaking scenery. From the Sligo wild Atlantic Coast to locks with irelands to Benbulben.

    2. A town center unmarked by the Celtic tiger developments. With real locally owned shops you won’t find anywhere ells.

    3. No American style fast food restaurants. Because our cafes, pubs and restaurants are so good no one would want to eat anywhere ells.

    4. Some of the best live music in Ireland.

    5. More artists and crafts people per capita than anywhere ells in Ireland. We have it all, from Hennessy award winning painters to world class sculptures, writers and blacksmiths.

    Who needs New York!

While I dont disagree with Sligo being a great spot you seem to be getting a little misty eyed! They built the Quayside Shopping Centre bang slap in the middle of the town and it houses TK Maxx, Next, River Island, Dealz, Dominos, Monsoon etc! McDonalds and KFC are in the Sligo Retail Park.

Quayside is not bang in the center of town. It’s off Wine Street. O’Connell Street and Castle a Street are bang center of Sligo and they are full of small inderpendent shops, as is Bridge St, Harmony Hill and the Hight St. The retail park is right on the outskirts of town. McDonalds had to shut their outlet in the center of Sligo almost ten years ago, as did Burger King, because they were not getting the trade. This is due to the vibrant cafe culture in Sligo.

I hold my hands up to being in love with Sligo and think of myself to be lucky to live in a place I love. It’s been 15 years since I moved here and Sligo just keeps getting better.

NYC is a little over-rated. There is not much exotic about it to Irish people these days. If you want a truly American vernacular urban buildings and culture, you instead need to check out Chicago.

It’s been proven global warming results in more erratic and extreme weather patterns at both ends of the spectrum…. That means blizzards too.

While New York may be freezing over, California is bone dry and running out of water.

Actually what’s been proven is that if the sun spot activity goes up or down so does our weather.. Only last year we were told that the sun was unusually quiet, that instead of a solar maximum we got very little sun spot activity.. Now this year we have New York and the rest of the East Coast of America freezing over the past two months.. Do you not think that has more to do with it then me using the wrong light bulbs…

Correction, California is not running out of water, the irrigation systems have been wrecked by environmentalists trying to save a relatively worthless fish. If it wasn’t a fish it would be a snail or worm or some other excuse.

The Delta Smelt court case in California should be a warning to us as our water possibly falls under the control of some unknown entities in the future. From 2007 to 2010, this environmental protection case shut down water deliveries to Southern California and some Central Valley farmers. The presiding judge ruled the science on which the case rested was “bogus.” During the “man-made drought” from the water shutdown, Southern California cities enacted water conservation ordinances, hired an army of water police, and raised water rates 15 percent or more. When the water shutdown order expired, and Brown officially declared the “drought” over, no cities or water districts repealed their water rate increases.
