LAST WEEKEND WE brought you the Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams reading out his own, often bizarre, tweets to camera.
So this week in a twist – admittedly inspired by Jimmy Kimmel – we got the Labour TD and Minister of State Aodhán Ó Ríordáin to read out some of the mean tweets aimed in his direction in recent weeks.
He’s no stranger to a social media controversy, so here’s him reading some of the more unsavoury tweets:

Erm this was poor , really poor from the journal. Please don’t do this again with telly tubby style tweets . And it’s obvious this was staged and he already read the tweets . What makes jimmy kimmel mean tweets funny is the ott nature of the tweets and the celebs reaction which is usually shock mixed with laughter . Seriously journal , please don’t do this again

He’s only a socalist towards minorities, roma, travellers, gays , muslims etc , but a blueshirt towards everyone else. He is labour personified, basically FG with a few right-on D.4 trendy policies tacked on to look good. I hope to see a lot less of this twit after the next election.

If these tweets upset him , i can’t wait to see his face when he goes door to door canvassing for the next election in dublin north central, the air will be blue, oh the language ! Still , it will give the army rangers something to do protecting him and joan from the irate and angry former labour voters.
i am pretty sure they were the best ones his pr team could find. the rest no doubt involved more profanity.
The actual ‘story’ takes the word cringe to a new level. Who comes up with these ideas?

If you become a public representative you make expect some praise, some indifference and some abuse. Its part of the job. If you can’t handle public ridicule, don’t stand on the podium.

Not unique to him I’m afraid. Most tweeters and commentators here weren’t hugged enough as kids and constantly seek validation.

It’s not a hug we need it a break from this despot government.
Hey tom that may be true but I for one was hugged too much. I may be posting negative comments on this only hoping the journal don’t do this again . If so have Joan burton read out ” Joan burton looks like a cabbage patch doll”. That’s not meant In a bad way , the whole point of jimmy kimmels mean tweets is humour mixed with a little humbleness from the celebs . That’s what some of our political leaders need ..,humbleness . Peace out!
Unlike Gerry Adams, he can’t deny those comments.
I think most of the people who made those comments have a valid reason for doing so. The td is just doing what tds do, just adding spin to make the people sound brainless. Either the people didn’t bother to add their justifications into the tweet or the td is deciding not to read out the rest of the tweets as most likely he’s deciding to ignore the truth about what a failure he and most of this gov is. Your time is nearly up anyway td. Do the patriotic thing for once and leave your pension behind you when you leave, it may pay back some of the debt you and your colleages are responsible for.
What really bugs me is that is one of many that denies time and time again his role in the hardship Irish people bore under his government’s leadership. Smile all you want Anus. The people of Ireland see you lot for what you’s are and we are not happy.

Internet racists dislike Aodhán because the idea that he might introduce legislation which would make them take a little personal responsibility for the tripe they spout on the internet makes them wet their undies.
Do people with invented Twitter accounts have personal responsibility?
I assumed troll accounts were created to avoid such.

I assumed that you were referring to the fact that I was using a pseudonymous Twitter account and that the troll account part of the comment was directed at me. My apologies if I have misinterpreted your comment.

He has about as much personality as a Labour TD
The lad better develop a thicker skin if he hopes to go canvassing. He blocked me on twitter for saying ‘#vinb @AodhanORiordain stop bailing out wealthy bankers and bondholders and stop hammering suffering people!’
I don’t agree with some of the personal and crude online attacks politicians get, however, Labour demonstrate time and time again how arogant and out of touch with the anger and hurt that they have inflicted upon the people, and the great sense of betrayal by many people who actually voted for them thinking they represented something different.
You reap what you sow
All power and holders of public position are supposed to be up for ridicule. Whether its a bit of abuse on twitter, broadsheet cartoons or satirical sketch shows on TV these clowns need to be mocked for the common good. Politicians who are doing very badly in the polls have become so pathetic in this age they feign innocence that abuse/ridicule/satire is not part of their career. Facilitated by the media this is a last gasp attempt for sympathy, a slide into a hole of self pity ploy, or into Aodhán Ó Riordáins case trying to catch as he falls into his political grave.
