REVENUE RECEIVED MORE than €1 million in local property tax payments today, and over 30,000 calls to the LPT helpline.
The majority of calls related to property owners who paid their 2014 LPT, but have not either paid or made arrangements to pay this year.
Due to the “unprecedented level of calls”, Revenue said “some callers may not be able to get through” and encouraged them to email lpt@revenue.ie with queries instead.
Revenue said 130,000 LPT compliance letters were issued last week in respect of unpaid 2013, 2014 and 2015 charges.
The body has urged people to pay online at www.revenue.ie, describing it as the “quickest and easiest way to make arrangements to pay LPT”.
If a property owner chooses the ‘Single Debit Authority’ option, the payment won’t be deducted until 21 March 2015, unless an earlier date is specified.
Alternatively, the property owner can spread the LPT liability over the remainder of the year by selecting deduction at source from their salary or pension, or direct debit from a current account.

I received a letter from these geniuses on Friday last informing me that as I had not paid my 2012 liability they will deduct from my income tax at source from next week on, luckily I have the email receipt of the said payment from early 2013 but have spent 2 days trying to contact their offices to rectify THEIR error without any success…. Awesome

We sold our house on 14 November 2014. But we’re liable for the lpt for all of 2015. Even though we didn’t own it for even one day of 2015! They’re going to deduct it straight from my salary starting in 14 days. I think that the date of 1 November is crazy- surely it should be 1st January?
Was the cut iff not the 1st of December? Either way I agree, its a riduclous rule. Ridiculous.

I got billed on Friday for 2012 when I wasn’t even in my house then to be told today that I was still liable even though I wasn’t here. Figure that one out.

They have registered under my name a second house that I know nothing about in a county that I’ve never lived in. It’s a joke they are claiming arrears from 2012 that I paid.

Yes very quick to tell us all the easy ways to part with money. Yet when you legitimately apply for a refund on account of overvaluing you are put through the hoops. I arranged to have the money direct debited by 21st March but also sent a letter to have the valuation reduced on one property. Result: the “threatening”letter. The lousiest crowd I have ever dealt with. Looks like no one mans their phones. Now they can wait.
I got a lovely lady and she explained to me that 2012 and 2013 local government tax was not paid so when you registered in 2014 they took that payment for 2014 and put it against 2012 and 2013 even though I payed for 2014 LPT and have a recite for 2014 payment but she explained I payed for some thing the government signed over in 2014 to revenue but did not notify me but once you signed in 2014 they had you because of your PPS number and have Permission to do this.
Irish water tried to do the same trick. I still waiting for a recite for 2012 2013.
Being charged for 1100 euro for I place I was renting back in 2013.. I tried to call them 37 times in 2 hours..it’s a mad world
