Schoolboy's teachers not impressed with his 50 Shades of Grey costume

It was all in the name of World Book Day.

A BRITISH SCHOOLBOY got in trouble at school when he arrived for World Book Day celebrations dressed as the lead character from racy novel “50 Shades of Grey”, complete with bondage equipment.

While other youngsters marked yesterday’s event by dressing up as Harry Potter, Willy Wonka or Paddington Bear, the 11-year from Manchester, northwest England, was slicking back his hair and dusting down a sharp suit as worn by the fictional billionaire Christian Grey.

But his efforts left teachers at Sale High School unimpressed. They banned him from group photographs and told him to alter his outfit, the school said.

His mother, Nicola Scholes, a primary school teacher, posted photographs on her Twitter page, showing her son posing in his outfit while brandishing cable ties and a blindfold, props used by Grey in the novel’s more risque passages.

The schoolboy claimed that the stunt was “a bit of fun” that had got out of hand.

“I thought personally I didn’t want to go as a cartoon character, so I chose Christian Grey just to have a bit of fun,” he told the local Manchester Evening News.

A lot of fuss has been made over nothing.

His mother on Friday said that her son had not read the book or seen the recently released film, but was “aware that the book contains things of a sexual nature.”

“Liam’s argument was it’s the most talked about book character in the last couple of years,” she told BBC Radio 4′s Today programme.

Apparently it went down really well with the vast majority of the students, they all took it for the tongue-in-cheek joke that it was meant to be.

“They (teachers) wanted him to be James Bond who ironically is a very promiscuous character who kills people so I don’t know which is worse of the two.”

She pointed out that a teacher had come as US fictional serial killer Dexter.

School headteacher Lynn Nicholls said her decision “reflected the school’s high standards in terms of student behaviour, welfare and safeguarding”, and denied he had been banned from all the celebrations. She said:

His costume was modified and he was then able to fully participate and enjoy the day with his peers.

What is wrong with these people? Dressing their kids up as megalomaniac, BDSM characters. This is not funny at all. How would the kid even know who Christian Grey is, unless told. Disgraceful.

There wouldn’t be a whisper if the kid went to school in drag. God forbid someone said something that offended someone else.

Don’t see what your problem is as that’s exactly the type of character that schools almost aim to churn out. Where is the harm in the costume at all?

Wouldn’t be surprised if it was planned as being a publicity stunt in the families eyes.

What parent seriously thinks that this would be a great costume for an 11 year old?
Then spend half the night sharing it to every news source on Twitter.

the mother is a primary school teacher herself I read on another site. Seriously how could she think it was appropriate to send him in like that cable ties and all.Did she see the backlash against Amanda holden for sending her daughter in dressed as the prostitute in pretty woman and think yeah ill have a bit of that negative public reaction?

Mildly inappropriate and not in the best taste but nothing to get too fussed about.

He should have been disciplined by his teacher and made to made write out 500 times

You have children in America suspended for biting their lunch into the shape of a gun, bringing bubble guns to school and shaping their hand to resemble a gun.
Are teachers in England looking for a reason to be equally as controversial. I think the kid looks smart, leave him alone.

The teacher dresses up as “Dexter”, a serial killer, why was that more acceptable than a grey suit. Maybe he should have said “sorry I’m really Christian Grey”, a psychopathic undead immortal should have been more than acceptable ☺

I see a 33 year old woman in a cinema in Mexico got somewhat carried away in her excitement.

I doubt that the film would hold much appeal for a 11 year old boy.

Apparently, the dubbing for foreign audiences is the best part of the film!
