LIVE: House of Commons debates release of Hillsborough documents

MPs debate a motion calling for the release of all documents relating to the Hillsborough Stadium disaster of 1989.

THE STREAM BELOW carries live footage from the House of Commons, where MPs are taking part in a debate on the disclosure and publication of documents relating to the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.

96 Liverpool fans died as a result of the tragedy at the FA cup semi-final in Sheffield. This debate, calling for the release of all documents relating to the disaster, was initiated by an e-petition backed by 100,000 members of the public.

The full text of the motion being debated is as follows:

That this House calls for the full disclosure of all government-related documents, including Cabinet minutes, relating to the 1989 Hillsborough disaster; requires that such documentation be uncensored and without redaction; and further calls for the families of the 96 and the Hillsborough Independent Panel to have unrestricted access to that information.

    As a Man Utd fan I cannot stand Liverpool FC but 96 innocent people died regardless of what club they supported. I don’t mock this tragedy, nor do I mock the Ibrox Disaster, the Bradford City fire or Heysel.
