ENDA KENNY HAS met an 11-year-old fan from Atlanta.
Jack Caffrey told the Taoiseach that he was up there with Winston Churchill as one of his favourite political heroes.
Jack was brought to City Hall to meet ‘his hero’ by his family who emigrated from Clare in the 1950s.
He told Enda, “My grandparents are from Ireland and they told me all about you and you are my greatest Irish inspiration.”
Kenny thanked Jack and joked to reporters, “I hope you took note of that.”
Speaking to the media Jack outlined exactly why he thinks Enda is so great:
I like that he has always had confidence and he stands up to any trouble because Ireland has been through some rough times but he has been able to lead them and nothing stands in his way that’s what favours me.

“Fastest growing economy”. “More jobs”. Our unemployment stands at nearly 22% when you include schemes such as job bridge and the part timers. All forms of poverty have increased dramatically under his “leadership”, in fact the numbers of disabled people who are below the poverty line increased by 40% since the onset of austerity (including all of Kenny ‘ s years). As well as 220,000 children and close to 80,000 pensioners. Please bare in mind the insult you inflict upon these people when raving about how great he is.

To everyone asking me for evidence. I’m a social scientist, all my claims are based on academic research, CSO figures and a report recently published by our wonderful leaders themselves. I would also request that anyone questioning my evidence learn to look beyond the surface of what you read in the papers to base your opinions on.
Please don’t accuse me of “pulling figures out my arse”, I am not being crude to anyone here.
Here is the evidence you are requesting. The section that you are looking for can be found in section 8 I believe. I have no problem engaging in a conversation about these things but the disgusting way in which I’ve been treated is inappropriate and unnecessary, it is also disrespectful to the many sectors of society that have been affected by these issues. Marginalized people (many of which I work with on a daily basis as a social activist and advocate) resent not just the fact that they are marginalized but also that their marginalization is disregarded or even (in this case) denied to them. Apologies if I am not prepared to walk all of the sceptics through the review page by page. I am sure if you are actually interested in these issues (as oppose to just being interested in calling my bluff) it will be enlightening for you. I am no longer engaging in this conversation. Make of the evidence what ever you would like :-)

I couldn’t agree with you more, statistics don’t lie, please see the evidence I’ve listed below to prove such a point. In this case the statistics you are claiming to be relevant are misleading to say the least. Ask someone who works in policy to critique some of these stats and see what conclusion they come to. The “growth” that looks so wonderful on paper is GDP, GNP, GNDI etc. If you had even a basic understanding of economics you would know how little these figures actually mean. They do not take account of black market trading, second hand goods and most importantly wealth distribution. They simply provide an average which the vast majority of people don’t actually earn. A study by Wilkinson and Pickett (the spirit level) actually goes to great lengths to explain how after a country has passed a certain point in it’s own development (shortly after it gains electricity and running water generally speaking) the GDP begins to have less and less relevance to the general living standard in the country. In other words, the countries market might be getting better but that doesn’t mean the quality of life is getting better in that country.
Wait until the kid reads about Micheal Collins, FDR, MLK, Nelson Mandella, Sean Lemass, even sees fictional characters like David Palmer of 24…then he’ll think to himself “oh yeh…what did Kenny actually accomplish at the end of the day? I guess I was just a kid listening to my partisan parents”.
Then he’ll read some history and read that Enda ran in 2011 promising:
-Universal Healthcare
-Universal free at point of use University funded by a graduate tax
-Renegotiating the terms of Irelands bailouts
-Doing a stimulus package to get Ireland out of recession earlier instead of just waiting for the recession to time out on it’s own
-Reform the public sector
and he’ll see Enda didn’t actually do any of those things, was slavishly subservient to Markel as if she was the President of Europe, and at BEST can be credited with having his arse in the Taoiseachs office when the recession (which went on longer than most do) naturally timed out, all the while implementing the policies of the FF govt he and his cohorts said were a disgrace before 2011….

Don’t be too hard on the kid, we were all kids, and we were all led by our parents beliefs as kids, unless any of you who are ‘Christian’ are foolish enough to think you freely choose to be. When I was a kid in Geography class I proposed, as a solution to warfare and ethnic cleansing (Kosovo etc was going on at the time) that every bullet and gun created should be licensed and recorded and numbered and only official armies and police allowed get their hands on them, I seriously thought “ha! then they’d have no way to GET guns, how would they ethnically cleanse THEN” and I was so smug and cocky nobody else had thought of it. When you’re a kid you don’t understand complexity.
Even adults you can see it on here all the time, often prefer the dumber simpler explanation to the harder to understand more complex reality, so is it any wonder many buy into the narrative of “Enda Kenny was Taoiseach during the recovery, ergo, Enda caused the recovery”, if many adults, 24% of the population, can’t understand that corrilation does not = causation, then how can we expect a child to understand that?
At least Obama has the (rather thin) excuse that he does not control the budget and can’t force congress to pass things, with even his own party funded by vested interests.
In Ireland the parties are publicly funded, the whip system means the Taoiseach has far FAR more power than the US President, effectively the Taoiseach can rule by the equivalent of an executive order, because of the whip system and the Senate NEVER EVER voting something down whatever the Taoiseach wants goes, there are no attack ads allowed..the only barrier is financial and frankly his excuse that they could not get money for a stimulus when the ECB managed to conjure a trillion out of thin air for the markets to gamble with is bs, we could borrow to bail out the banks but can’t borrow 10% of that for a stimulus? come on
