Photocall Ireland

Poll: Will you vote for Renua?

Or will you save your vote for an established party?

AS YOU MIGHT have noticed, Ireland got a new political party yesterday.

Lucinda Creighton’s Renua plans to “govern in the sunshine”, and “is different in absolutely every respect to the old way of doing business”.

It created a lot of buzz on its first day (although sometimes for the wrong reasons, from Terance Flanagan’s car crash interview, to a spoof Facebook page gaining more likes than the official one), but we’ve several months to wait and see if this will translate into actual votes.

This morning we’re asking: Are you planning to vote for Renua in the next general election?

Poll Results:

No (13231)
I haven't decided (3727)
Yes (2577)
I won't vote for anyone (450)

They think they’re new but they’re just the same as all the other parties. They’ll promise you anything to get power but then they will turn their backs on you. It wasn’t like Creighton left Fine Gael because of what they were doing to the population, was it? It was because they offended her. She’s another ‘me,me,me,’ politician.

I also know what it takes to start a new party. You are right in what you say but I’m long enought around to know when we are being skinned alive. Do you know what It takes to get intelligent people to believe that the governments we had down through the resent years were for our good?. Millions through spin doctors and party handlers. Who paid for the crash, not one politician, some politicians said we all went mad spending, I didnt, but the people that did are not paying their debts. The ordinary joe soap is.

Untrue – they wouldn’t go near SF for a start, and based on yesterday’s Red C poll, FG/Lab popularity is growing, and so long as the economy continues to grow, so will their popularity. I would guess-timate that in the next election, should FG form the next Government, it will require a small number of independents.

However, unlike other parties, they will not be enforcing a whip on matters of conscience, and as a party they do not have a stated position on abortion; some members are obviously against any kind of abortion, but others are pro choice. I don’t even know if they will run a candidate in my constituency (Wexford) but i would be open minded about voting in the next election. Sinn Fein’s candidate in Wexford has just been announced, he won’t have a national profile but he is a good man.

Ironically, if FG didn’t impose a whip for votes on “matters of conscience”, Lucinda would still be a fully paid up member of that party. TD’s are elected to represent the interests of their constituents – not to use their position to embark on personal crusades once elected. If RENUA are so sure of their stance, then the right thing for them to do would be to resign their Dail seats that they were elected to as representatives of other parties, and contest the subsequent by-elections standing for RENUA.

I thought that they said they will not have a policy on “matters of conscious” it is one of their core principles.

Like them or not, why assign the one thing they have said is not policy to them?

Now being Fine Gael linked if elected they would likely renege on their promises, that would be more a reason not to vote for them.
But let’s applaud anyone who suggests doing things differently, you don’t have to vote for them but choices are good.

It is pointless using parties planned policies as a guide in who to vote for as none of them ever stick to their policies. But I have noticed that the bulk of the mainstream media has been touting them as virtual “king makers” in the next Dail. But that is either ignoring or forgetting the fact that Fine Gael via Leo and the Labour Party via everyone are committed to addressing the issues of the Repeal of the 8th Amendment and FFA. At which point Lucinda and her troops will slip off into the ether. So for the next Dail and until such time as these two issues are put to bed I can’t see them as anything other than a Party ( of supportive) Opposition.

Water infrastructure needs investment, it’s being criminally ignored for decades but your question is loaded, people aren’t protesting about money going towards the upkeep and maintenance of water services, it’s more about where this new tax is going.
Irish water quango is a disaster and the last few years of ff and fg governments have propagated a serious amount of cynicism in the mind set of people, for all we know this water tax will go straight into servicing a debt we were lumbered with.
IF in ten years time and still have polluted water, leaks and creaky old lead pipes this cynicism will be justified.

They have already changed their “vision” from yesterday. Yesterday under the Welfare heading they said they would imprison those who are not “self relient” . I take it that means the unemployed. So what we have is just another Fascist party trying to hide the truth of what they intend for the unemployed.

Well that term has existed in Irish since at least the 12th century, of course Lucinda ain’t gonna be happy to know that it also means “New Moon” (as in the stage of lunar cycle), this is due to Ré also meaning moon, due to it’s association with time (and it’s passing).

So an appropriate name given that those who are gonna vote for it will be from the Loony Right!

It’s a party still in its embryonic stage, they need to flesh out their policies first before one can look at them properly. It’s surprising how critical people are of them considering they are only starting out. Let them give some substance to their policies before scathing them, that at least would be the sensible approach. I noted that last night on Six One , Martina Fitzgerald had to come back at the question posed by the newsreader that their policies were lightweight, she replied that the party was only seven hours old.

Spot on Dermot, and now for Lucinda the fun begins as everything builds up for their first matrimonial row; as the usual national pastime (called the ‘narcissism of small differences) breaks them apart before the next election. Of all the possible policy platforms and pillars they could have run with, and after all this time as a reform alliance, and after all that money behind them as elected politicians, this sadly is a pretty weak kick off.

Did anyone hear the latest from Lucinda the looney today? Well this is how desperate she is to get anyone’s vote. She is now saying that Irish water is a sham (which I’m sure most of us agree with) but get this, it was phil hogan and the unions who were behind it. So the whole water charges thing is the fault of public servants those dastardly evil baby eaters. And it gets better if she gets her way she’ll abolish Irish water and set up a new better organization to manage our water. So basically public servants bad, dismantle the thing that cist us a fortune to set up and set up another useless quango at a cost of another fortune. Where do I sign up Lucinda NOT.
