At the Abbeyglen Castle hotel, it appears you don’t know who you might bump into when you visit – according to their latest promo video anyway.
The video, titled I’m A Celebrity Get me in There, took a year to make, and features the late Tony Fenton providing the voiceover.
Manager and owner of the Abbeyglen Castle Brian Hughes – whose family have run the hotel since 1969 and who grew up “peeling potatoes and washing dishes” there – said they were inspired to make the video after a previous promo took off.
That video was taken offline, but it inspired them to start something new.
Over period of a year we got all the well-known Irish people that come in and out of the hotel to do something in the hotel. They all jumped into it with vigour and vim.
Hughes described Glen Abbey as “one of those mad fun places” that has “a very special atmosphere”.
Before the guests did their scenes, the hotel staff making the video would come up with ideas for their parts. “It had to be funny,” said Hughes, who is a cousin of Ryan Tubridy.
The promo video got its debut in Times Square of all places, thanks to a regular visitor to the hotel. Hughes visited on 19 March, and watched the ad being displayed on No 3 Times Square.
“It was just incredible,” he said.
I’m from Clifden in Connemara and I never really understood what Times Square meant and the size of it. I never would have thought a little man like me on the edge of the Atlantic would be in Times Square.
