TV3 BOSSES HAVE confirmed a new, nightly, 8pm bulletin will start from next Monday.
According to a press release from the Ballymount broadcaster:
The new 30 minute comprehensive news programme, hosted by Senior TV3 News anchor Colette Fitzpatrick, brings viewers the day’s main national and international news stories, in a fast-paced programme which will also incorporate a comprehensive business and sports news section, followed by the national weather.
It’s the latest move by the station to compete with UTV Ireland. The arrival of the Docklands-based station to the scene at the start of the year meant TV3 lost the rights to evening staples like Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
A new, home-produced, soap opera ‘Red Rock’ is being shown twice a week by the station.
Martin King and Lucy Kennedy have also been moved from daytime to present magazine programme “The Seven O’Clock Show”.
Currently the 8pm slot on TV3 is filled with gameshows like ‘Celebrity Chase’ and repeats of lifestyle and documentary programming.
From the station’s press release, again:
With commuting times becoming longer, and a greater availability of audience in the early peak viewing time, TV3 has chosen the 8pm broadcast slot to provide its viewers with an alternative news time which is the norm throughout continental Europe including: Spain (Cuatro) France (TF1) Portugal (SIC) Italy (RAI).
A quote from news director Andrew Hanlon said the move had been planned for “some time” and was part of “the evolution of TV3’s overall new schedule of programmes and the introduction of landmark shows such as ‘Red Rock’ and ‘The Seven O’ Clock Show’”.
“For many people, catching the early evening news just isn’t an option as they are still travelling home from work. Now, ‘TV3 News at 8’ follows a long established European tradition, giving viewers the news at a time that suits them.”
The weekday 12.30pm and 5.30pm bulletins will continue as normal – as, of course, will Vincent Browne at 11pm.

About 8 presenters work in the station and I’m sick to the teeth of them. The production quality is dreadful and is it me or do all the news presenters look like clones. A truly awful Chanel . I’m sure they’ve been told all this a thousand times but choose to ignore.
I don’t know if they look like clones, but they sure do talk like robots, must have got their change accent operations done by the same surgeon

God, no. I can’t abide TV3; car crash television infested with ads and Z-list celebrities humping their last five minutes of fame for all it’s worth.
I studiously avoid their limp,tabloid vacant tabloid mush at 5.30 so eh… No. Especially after watching a pure and true current affairs presenter Mr. Snow on a proper news program, channel 4 news at 7 o’clock.
I long to go back to a time when I didn’t care less what was in the news.

The Journal.ie has news all day long so I always keep up to date.
Who still watches TV3.. Rubbish presenters broadcasting from a warehouse in Ballymount Industrial Estate.. Plus there the only mainstream channel that don’t broadcast in HD as yet..
Well at least they are making a go of it without the millions of taxpayers money that the leeches in rte get. They might not be everyone’s cup of tea but surely they deserve a bit of respect for taking on rte. Plus Marian Finucane is probably taking home more a week for her couple of hours than 5 of tv3′s presenters for 50 hours each a week.

Definitely the face. Ideally neither, as with RTE/TV3, but a kick in the bollix is the pits.
The one and only time I’ve envied Enda Kenny is when I was kicked in the balls.

I prefer TV3 to RTE i feel they should get the licence fee. You don’t get the truth from RTE newswise, if it had anything to do with IW or DOD Enda gives them the nod to zip it
Any Irish made shows get licence fee money no matter what channel they are on, so TV3 do get some licence fee money for shows like red rock, but it’s a very small percentage compared to what RTE get…

P*ss poor station, no budget and it shows. How the cowboys in RTE let his shower get the RWC rights is beyond me.

It will depend on how honest their reporting is, if its as poor as RTE then i wont be bothered watching again.

RTE News is utter shite, in an hour (including wearer forecast), they actually manage to give the main ‘headline’ three fcuking times?????? How lazy is that.
TV3 have stood up well to the UTV challenge so far and I prefer tv3 news to the UTV version so it’s a yes I might watch it occasionally from me.
If your main competitor has €190 million from the taxpayer then it is difficult to be too hard on TV3
Channel four news is quite excellent compared to the happy go Lucky lot at tv3 and the government at rte news.
Why can’t any of the tv3 girls pronounce the letter o properly in a sentence.
Doesn’t matter what time of the day it is. Now, if they said that they were going to report the truth, the yes votes might go up!!
