Peaceful protest to take place at Dublin Airport

Former Aer Lingus and DAA staff are to take part.

PENSIONERS WHO USED to work for Aer Lingus and Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) are to hold a peaceful protest at the airport today.

The Deferred IASS Action Group, which represents deferred pensioners from Aer Lingus and DAA, are to hold the protest because of a dispute over a pension fund that covers workers from DAA, Aer Lingus and SR Technics.

Over 5,000 workers who are no longer employed, but haven’t yet received their pensions, are at the centre of the dispute.

They will hold their protest at Dublin Airport from 1-3pm today, and intend to target terminals one and two.

A spokesperson said their intention was “to gain attention and to slow down traffic if possible”.

They have previously held protests at the airport, and said that though they expected some resistance from the airport police and gardaí, they received none.

The action group will meet with Tánaiste Joan Burton on Monday about the issue.

They are discussing putting a complaint into the EU Commission’s office in relation to lack of legislation in Ireland on deferred members of staff.

They say their protest is:

to remind Aer Lingus and DAA that we do not accept the inequitable settlement imposed and that we demand equitable compensation with active members, as is the intent of the legislation.

They also want to “highlight our disgust at [DAA]” putting a deadline in place on compensation.

The dispute relates to the Irish Airlines Superannuation Scheme (IASS) which covers workers at the three companies at Dublin Airport.

We should highlight to FG and Labour when they come around at the local elections about the huge increases in DIRT blocking people trying to save any chance of earning any interest

By their massive on savings, the Government has made sure Hyatt it is not worthwhile putting any money on deposit. Inflation would mean that you lose out by saving.
This is not a very enlightened policy.

Taxed on income. DIRT tax on my savings. Current deposit accounts earn about 1% after tax. What’s the point in tying money up for that little?

What I find amusing is the medja talking heads and most politicians seem to hate people saving. Then the gov taxes the life out of it, the ECB and banks rip off savers with phantom interest rates and that french commie Lagrade wont be happy until everyone’s savings are confiscated.
