TV PRESENTER AND comedian Sue Perkins says she is taking a break from Twitter after receiving death threats following rumours linking her to Top Gear.
The Great British Bake Off presenter has herself rubbished the rumours but it hasn’t stopped people from allegedly saying they wanted to see her ‘burned alive’.
BBC has said that Top Gear will continue after it sacked presenter Jeremy Clarkson.
There’s yet to be any official comment about who will be on the next series of the show, but Perkins’s name popped up this week as a possible replacement.
It lead it an immediate sexist backlash, she told her followers:
She went on to describe the rumours of “pure bunkum” but it didn’t stop her from receiving threats.
Top Gear co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May have yet to confirm their intentions on whether they will continue with the show.
Clarkson is reported to have told a charity auction over the weekend that Top Gear could “be back somewhere else”.
What he meant is unclear with the BBC retaining the sole rights to the globally successful format.
Ladbrokes have made former X Factor host Dermot O’Leary the favourtite to replace Clarkson with actor Philip Glenister and presenter Jodie Kidd also considered to be in the running.

I never get people who make death threats on twitter. I used to think it was children/ teens with no sense on twitter but it is apparent adults too.
It’s mostly adults I’d say.
Kids are more tech savvy and are well aware that if push comes to shove they are not anonymous and can be traced.

Yeah I’m sure, but I’m sure there are many who have seen Clarksons many lines such as “they strikers should be taken outside and shot” or something along those lines and feel like it’s okay to do. Monkey see monkey do and all that.

Bill, that’s classic ‘them action movies made me shoot people’ logic right there which has been proven to be over-estimated in recent times. There are no bad role models in, say, My Little Pony but that hasn’t stopped obsessive fans of the series from issuing death threats as well.
Jeremy Clarkson is certainly a crass man but I think you overestimate his influence.

One million people signed a petition after he got fired for assulting a co worker and deliver it to the bbc offices via a tank. I’d say he has a slight bit of influence to be honest…
Well, I wonder of these people are fans of top gear or are they the type of people who will troll any chance they get? Plenty of them on the journal, for example, who will troll whether they have a real interest in the story or not.

I think there’s better choices than her to host the show but it’s hardly an important enough issue to resort to death threats over it.

Some people really are incredibly sad. How empty and soulless must your life be to send death threats to a TV presenter. I know I’m contradicting myself here but they really aren’t worth the time it took me to write this.

Would be just typical of the BBC to replace Clarkson with a woman. Not because there’s anything wrong with having a female presenter of a car show. Rather because it shows up the spineless politically correct management of the BBC. They see three white men and think it would “look bad” if they replace him with another white man. Quite staggering that in a European nation today it is a liability to be a white man. The word “meritocracy” means nothing to these idiots.
