Ryanair passengers texted about 10.30pm take-off... while they're onboard at 5pm

The plane made two attempts at landing in Nice.

Updated 9.51 pm

RYANAIR PASSENGERS ON board a Ryanair flight from Nice to Dublin said they received a text saying the flight would take off at 10.30pm – while they were on board the plane at 5.13pm.

One passenger said the flight was due to leave at 4.45pm this evening when they first got a text to say they were taking off at 5.15pm.

While they were on board, they then received another text:

unnamed

The passengers were then told to disembark from the plane and wait at the airport. They resumed boarding at about 9.45pm this evening.

A second passenger told TheJournal.ie earlier that the FR1958 flight had to make two attempts at landing in Nice.

He said that the passengers on FR1959 back to Dublin were checked in and boarded, but then received texts saying their flight was delayed until 5.15pm.

Passengers are now in the terminal awaiting news about their flight. Ryanair has given them €5 vouchers.

The second passenger said that passengers were told repairs need to be carried out on the plane, so he was concerned about the facilities for those waiting to take off.

“An issue that may arise now is that if the repairs are unsuccessful then a full aircraft worth of people will be stranded in an airport that is about as hot now as a decent cup of tea,” he said.

A Ryanair representative on Twitter advised one passenger to speak with their Ryanair representative in Dublin airport.

Ryanair has been contacted for a comment.

I think I’ve actually won a lot more backing O’Learys horses than I’ve lost due to his planes being delayed.Besides a 5 hour delay is hardly the end of the world along as your not getting a connecting flight and even then…… well you did book with Ryanair.

Another related story about Ryanair…. a few days ago a 23 year old primary school teacher named Aaron Galloway landed at Prague Airport after disembarking a Ryanair plane he left a £500 Nikon camera behind. ground crew phoned the flight attendants, but they had said there was no sign of it on-board. After arriving home Aaron decided to look for a replacement on Ebay… guess what he found? the very same camera he had left behind on the flight! Ryanair sacked Fernando Miguel Andrade a 34 year old steward who had stole the camera and tired to sell it on Ebay. He also got fined in court and given 100 hours of community service. There is an article I read once that argued the high importance placed on air travel safety drives costs up, which ultimately makes the world more unequal because… I think it was saying people would be more inclined to go to further, poorer places, which could do with more tourism. Which probably true, since air travel is by far safest form of travel there is.

In any case, I think the airlines would probably still rather keep it safe, if for no other reason than aircraft are expensive and if an airplane breaks down mid-flight, unlike a bus or a train, it’s a guaranteed disaster and total write off of the aircraft.

All those slagging of Ryan Air obviously don’t remember the era before they existed, I can clearly remember back in 1988 having to pay Aer Lingus up to £200 to £300 to fly from Heathrow to Shannon, then prices would go up at Xmas to sometimes nearly £400 for the flight. Then along comes Ryan Air and offers low cost fares to same destinations which have made flying accessible to all when previously it was very expensive. If it wasn’t for Ryan Air we would all still be being fleeced by the overpriced National Airlines.

I had an eighteen hour delay in Bari and fourteen hour in Hamburg with Ryanair, where was the journals crack investigative team when I needed them?

I wonder if Justin is using the time to improve his spellings? Why did he want waist time? What a waste of time for his fellow passengers. Perhaps he right an the Ryanair plane is broke and there is need for a collection. Or perhaps it is broken and needs to be repaired.

No. Legacy/national carriers tend to have leeway in their schedules which enables them to send out an aircraft to pick up people stranded by technical issues. Ryanair don’t as all of their usable planes are scheduled for use all the time. Hence the alleged lower fares (take a look at some of their summer fares to airports where they compete with EI.) No real difference between them.

Well Alan some of us remember the so called national airlines ripping us off that was until Ryan Air came along and forced the national parasite lines to lower their prices and I for one am grateful to them for that. Now these national airlines have to compete with the low cost airlines so happy days for us frequent flyers.

Ireland has no National Airline anymore and EI are leasing planes since last year just to fulfil their schedule and they are leasing more this summer, so even if it was EI that was delayed their pax would be stranded due to no available planes. Alan has no clue

Ryanair had nothing to do with it. National airlines were operating a cartel, which the EU dismantled and opened up the market. Competition will always drive down prices but to claim Ryanair as the great saviour of aviation is nonsense. They wouldn’t have existed were it not for Open Skies.

But sure I’ve no clue at all.
