Man in his 70s threatened at gunpoint by balaclava-wearing mugger

Police are appealing for information.

POLICE IN BELFAST are appealing for information after a man was robbed at gunpoint this morning.

It happened in the Westrock Gardens area, in the west of the city, around 10.30am.

The victim of the robbery, a credit agent aged in his 70s, was uninjured in the incident.

The mugger – who made off with a sum of cash – was wearing a balaclava, a black leather jacket and is described as being around 5’6″ tall, of slim build and with a Belfast accent.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact CID at Musgrave Police Station on the non emergency number 101,” Detective Constable Gareth Hussey said in a statement.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

It’s really not a dump. All cities have problems (and s@umbags) and while Belfast does have its fair share of them it’s still a cool place. I’m originally from a rural community in the ROI and a while ago there was a spate of armed robberies on people living alone in the area….NONE of these robberies made national news. Just because you don’t hear about it doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Do you honestly believe this kind of sh!t isn’t happening in places all over Ireland?

Belfast is a great city. Vibrant and full of life. A few lowlifes give it a bad name. But sure that’s the same anywhere else in the country.

A man doing a job for a loan company, I have no problem with loan companies getting robbed but mugging an elderly man is a bit cowardly.
