Two of those paintings Michael Flatley makes with his feet sold for €120k

People scoffed when they were shown on the Late Late – but it appears the Lord of the Dance can do no wrong.

The Late Late Show / YouTube

YOU MAY HAVE seen Michael Flatley’s artworks on the Late Late last Friday.

Two of the paintings – which the superstar dancer creates by dipping his feet into paint, going into deep concentration and dancing to the ‘beat in his head’ – were on display.

The segment – as you may recall – didn’t go down too well with viewers.

A sample response:

After all that, the Lord of the Dance star is having the last laugh this morning.

Laughing all the way to the bank, in fact.

The paintings, together, went for over €120,000 at the Morgan O’Driscoll Irish & International Art Auction at Dublin’s RDS last night.

‘The Flight of the Quetzal’ went for €44,000.

And ‘The Power’ sold for €77,500.

It appears those feet can do no wrong…

Like him or loathe him, Michael Flatley will go down in the history books as he did create shows which millions of people around the world did enjoy. I, for one, have and never have had any interest in his work, but good luck to him. Flatley did provide jobs to many people through his work and his shows still continue to do so.
It’s not the mainstream type of work but it gave employment to stage managers, grips, conductors, musicians, dancers, floor designers, shoe makers, electricians, dress designers, carpenters and many more.
As for Flatleys artwork; it only takes one investor, who most likely is of the mindset that they own paintings of a man who did wonders for the Irish dance scene in Ireland. In years down the line those paintings may be worth half a million. That’s the gamble.
In the early 80′s, Rolph Harris sold a portrait painting for £50stg of Bonnie Tyler. In early 2000 the painting was valued at £50K. When the accusations of abuse came about the painting was worth probably 50p.
The point is an investor will buy art on speculation.

Seems to me that all the begrudgers who’ve commented should have got off their ar$es and done some paintings themselves. They, too, could have made some money.
