GARDAÍ ARE investigating the cause of a house fire in Mullingar in which three people were injured this morning.
The fire was reported shortly before 2am today at a house at Grange Crescent in Mullingar. A man, woman and three children escaped the fire through an upstairs window.
Gardaí entered the house and rescued a two-year-old girl who was trapped in an upstairs bedroom. All six occupants were brought to the Midlands Regional Hospital and the woman is understood to be in serious condition.
Two of the children were subsequently moved to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.
The two gardaí who entered the house were treated for smoke inhalation.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
