There's a way to download free iPhone apps without using your password

Provided you have the latest version of iOS installed.

WHILE IT’S GREAT from a security perspective, having to enter your password every time you download a free app can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you’re downloading apps regularly.

If you’re an iPhone or iPad user, you may have installed the latest iOS update 8.3 (if you haven’t, go to Settings > General > Software Update and you can install it there).

Once you have it, there’s a way to turn off this requirement in settings. If you go into General > Restrictions > Password Settings, you will be able to turn off the ‘Require Password’ option.

If it doesn’t appear there, then you will need to go into iTunes & App Store and find Password Settings there.

App payment iPhone iPhone

And that’s it. There are a few other small but handy features on iOS 8.3 like filtering spam messages on iMessage (Settings > Messages > Filter Unknown Senders for those interested), but if you want an extra level of convenience when downloading apps, this will help.

Great to see this step in the right direction. There is definitely no need for a bunch of bananas to be sweating in a plastic bag.

I eat a lot of fruit and those plastic trays and plastic are the scourge of my shopping each week. Such a waste and destroying our beautiful planet. Fruit should be available to pick and weigh yourself in the shop. Then place it into a paper bag or better still bring your own bags or containers.

@Ciara Clancy: I do this everywhere obviously it doesn’t work so well with a weekly shop as when you only have a few items.

You can however sometimes unpack and remove excess labels from things in the shop as you buy things. Saves time at the checkout.

Don’t forget it works on all types of goods and produce.

@FlopFlipU: You need to pick up and squeeze most fruit to see how ripe it is. Bread always needs a good squeeze too to see how fresh and warm it is. I always take the warmer loaves. Don’t be so precious about your food being handled. Unless you live in a sealed bubble you will encounter billions of germs every day. They are part of life and help to boost your immune system.

@Neal Ireland Hello.: The produce has to be transported in something though. Its more efficient to use the transport boxes as display boxes rather than unpacking everything onto the shelves. It would be a logistical nightmare to use/clean/reuse uniform plastic totes from hundreds of different suppliers.

This is a great start! Now Lidls – you have way too much of single use packages. If it comes in “puff” plastic bags chances are very high you cannot recycle. Plus packages for biscuits, crisps, and so on, “Not currently recyclable”. Totally unacceptable.

This is good news, a move in the direction of complete phasing out of single use plastic and plastic packaging. We don’t need it. It either ends us in our seas damaging marine life and humans in the food chain or in toxins from incinerators. These is great public support for a plastic free Ireland. I was in the supermarket helping on the nation plastic free campaign day and people were very supportive. We can become waste free.
