A 17-YEAR-OLD man died after the van he was driving crashed into a barrier last night.
It happened in Co Down between the Blaris and Saintfield junctions on the eastbound carriageway of the M1 at around 10.50pm.
It’s understood the silver Transit van had been stolen in the Republic earlier in the evening.
Officers investigating the collision have seized a red Ford Mondeo, thought to have been travelling with the van, from an address in Lagmore, west Belfast.
Inspector Wilson from PSNI Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses, he said:
We would like to hear from anyone who saw either the silver Transit Van or the Modeo car on the M1 or A1 prior to the time of the collision.

A young persons death is tragic no matter what the circumstances. But….all I can say here is thankfully no innocent people were involved or killed here due to some young gobsh#!es bad decision.

Misleading (probably deliberate) title. Killed in van makes it sound like the 17 yr old was murdered in the van. A mention of the crash would probably clear it up

Little more than a kid , awful . You don’t necessarily think of consequences at that age .
Condolances to the persons house they most likely robbed to get the keys of the van which was probably full of his belongings.if only the rest of the robbing low lifes in this country were killed on the way back from their crimes then we could all sleep alot easier..

Rest in peace deepest condolences to his family. What a waste of a life for something so stupid to do. Wish the kids would sign up for stock car racing or the likes and race around on a track. We could have a few Michaels in the country if they live speed that much. God bless
