Revenue seizes €22,500 during Dublin Airport searches

Customs officers have seized a combined total of over €0.5 million from airports, ports and other points of state entry and exit so far this year.

CUSTOMS OFFICERS seized over €22,000 in cash from two men attempting to board a plane to Holland at Dublin Airport.

The Revenue Commissioners says that the officers carried out searches on a man and a woman from Lithuania. They discovered €12,500 on the 37-year-old man, while the woman, 30, was found to have €10,000 in her possession.

The cash was taken in accordance with Section 38 of the Criminal Justice Act 1994, as amended by Section 20 of the Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005. Dublin District Court this morning approved a three-month detention order on the cash for the Revenue Commissioners while the investigation proceeds.

The Revenue said that today’s seizures came as a result of ‘routine profiling’ by officers at the airport.

To date this year, Customs has seized a combined total of over €566,300 from searches carried out at a points of entry to and exit from the state. Of that, €347,930 has been seized over 16 searches in Dublin Airport.

It may be time for the people of Kerry to summon Danny Healy-Rae and his magical ark to transport them from the torrent. If you see a Batman’ like sign in the skies over Kerry with a flat cap instead of a bat, then fear not for Danny is being summoned.
