People cannot get over Vincent Browne’s referendum broadcast from The George

Browne is covering the referendum from a gay bar in Dublin. Because of COURSE.

THE REFERENDUM has given us some interesting moments, but none quite as bizarre as Vincent Browne hosting a show from The George.

You may remember the rather excellent promotional pictures from earlier this week:

tv3-vincent-browne-3-330x500 TV3 TV3

We’re loving the TV3 rainbow graphic coming out of The George.

don TV3 TV3

Vinny B is covering the referendum results at Dublin’s legendary gay bar, joined by Glenda Gilson, Oliver Callan and a cast of drag queens (as well as TheJournal.ie‘s Sinead O’Carroll).

He’s having a great time altogether.

“I haven’t been to many gay bars, but it’s great fun.”

The show has ended up being less of a current affairs programme and more of a raucous celebration – and Vincent, the audience, and the viewers at home are having the time of their LIVES.

Vincent styled it out for the occasion

The drag queens performed Lady Marmalade

There were a LOT of zingers thrown the No campaign’s way

As well as praise for the special #VinB theme tune

(It was Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, by the way.)

And everyone was quite sure that nothing would ever top it, TV-wise

Sure, it even had Bosco.

I flicked over from RTÉs coverage and the difference! Brian Dobson’s got his charms, but it was like VinB was trying to host an unruly Eurovision green room! It was hilarious and emotional all at once!!

    Yes! Equality for all!

In fact, lets have a referendum to end the current age discrimination for the office of presidency next. A 33 year old doesn’t even have the right to run for office. Since obviously now Ireland is all about equality, I have no doubt such a referendum would pass with flying colours!

    Oh, wait a minute….

Pharmyco, so what? It’s still blatant age discrimination. How can the same “anti-discrimination” crowd vote for such blatant age discrimination on the same day?

    Hypocrisy is surreal.

Really a 21 year old as a countries President in all fairness what sort of life experience do you have at 21 to run for the highest office in the state. I mean come on. Have some common sense!

Vincent. A 33 year old cannot run for presidency. If you think they don’t have experience, then don’t vote for them. To deny them (a legal voting adult) the right to run is blatant age discrimination.

Some 30 year olds have more life experience than some 50 year olds. Why not let the voting public decide who is most qualified on a case by case basis, rather than this blanket discrimination?

It is a time to celebrate and to party.

Lots of sports events and public occasions are celebrated in pubs.

Lots of people worked really hard for the result. Who could begrudge them the joy, the exuberance and the relief.

Well done to TV3 and Vincent Browne.
