AFTER 28 SEASONS, the BBC has pulled the plug on its ‘irreverent pop quiz’, Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
Reaction to the decision has been varied, with some fans in shock that the broadcasting giant would axe the show, and others feeling it had been below par in recent years.
The Guardian reports that the BBC2 controller, Kim Shillinglaw, made the decision not to recommission the show, which was made by Talkback.
The most recent host of the show was comedian Rhod Gilbert, but previous hosts included Simon Amstell and Mark Lamarr.
The most recent team captains were Noel Fielding and Phill Jupitus.
The show first aired in 1996, going on to have 260 episodes in total.
One of its most famous moments was when Preston from the Ordinary Boys walked off the set:

He had some killer lines. Pity he didn’t stay on.

It was pretty patchy at times but look at some of the other mind numbing shows and soaps.
Used to be a great show but had definitely been on the wane in recent years. Always felt sorry for the washed up stars they had in the identity parade, the poor sods got some abuse.

Simon Amstel making bits of Preston is my all time favourite moment.
Enjoyed it with Lamarr presenting and Jupitus in his element. Don’t think Fielding is funny, Jupitus lost interest and other presenters didn’t click.
Once LaMarr left I lost all interest

Thank you, I’ve been saying Noel Fielding wasn’t funny for ages but friends were telling me I was wrong. So I’ve have watched a couple of his shows to see what I was missing,turns out I wasn’t missing anything, he’s just not funny. Agreed he was good in the IT Crowd.
His jokes revolve around random words “oh a sparrow…with a hairdryer…..washing its man legs while in a bath of liquid trees and clouds made of cars”……..not funny

Fielding was great in the Boosh though, season 1-2 were great, 3 not as good. We watched the flip outta those dvds back in the day
have you seen RTE’s attempt at it???? shockingly bad….absolutely shocking it wa called “hey ho lets go” and it was awful……awful
With a few rare exceptions most of what RTE do comedy wise is pretty dire.Will somebody please tell them that dodge impressions are fine for about 10 mins but become very unfunny stretched over an entire series unless your at the level of Dermot Morgan.
Probably no harm but it had a zenith under amstell that was brilliant at times.
Yeah once Amstell left it was never going to hit the same peaks. The odd guest host did well, notably Frankie Boyle, but certainly the Amstell years were the high point.
That Preston episode still makes me laugh

Thats a shame, but to be honest it had become a bit hit and miss in it’s old age.
The two episodes Frankie Boyle hosted were hilarious, they’re up on youtube if you haven’t seen them already. The comment he makes about wayne rooney is priceless.
Dappy from NDubz confusing Martha Wainwright for Cerys Matthews was one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever seen on telly
When it was hosted by Simon Amstell (and even with Frankie Boyle as a guest host) it was a great show – celebrities and musicians were put in their place. They should have ended it when they decided to make it some PC family friendly show.
Frankie Boyle presented 2 shows. He was fantastic. I wish he would go back to panel shows.
He’s brilliant but extremely high risk.You can see the devilment in his eyes.

Couldn’t stand it so good riddance. However the time slot will just be taken up by another inane programme where “celebrities” will massage each other’s egos.

Not current at all. Leave it off for a few years. TFI Friday is making a comeback now that’s a good show. It was then and should be now. Chris Evans was crazy.
