There's a hidden 'low light' mode buried deep in your iPhone's settings

And it’s easy to activate (once you know how).

WHEN YOU WANT to adjust the brightness of your iPhone, you can only reduce it by a certain amount. For the most part, it’s fine but if you are looking at your phone in a dark place, any further reduction in lighting is always appreciated.

What you might not know is there’s a hidden ‘low light’ mode found deep in accessibility mode and it’s pretty easy to access, once you know how.

To start, go to General > Accessibility > Zoom and turn on Zoom and Show Controller.

download

A little controller with four arrows and a button will appear on screen. Tap on it to bring up an extra set of options. Tap on ‘Choose Filter’ and select ‘Low Light’.

IMG_3049

Once you’ve that done, turn ‘Show Controller’ off and go back to the accessibility menu. If you scroll to the bottom, you can go to accessibility shortcut and turn on Zoom (if it isn’t on already).

Now when you triple press the home button and bring up accessibility shortcuts, hitting the zoom button will activate low light mode. Doing the same thing will revert it back to normal.

And that’s it. Bask in the glory of not having a screen that burns your eyes.

Why do Apple bury some many fantastic things so that they are hidden from us? Do they know about them themselves? Wish they would make a better on-screen keyboard for the iPad.

Good tip. I use my phone as an alarm clock at night. Even turned down, the screen is still very bright. This should help

Don’t have an iPhone but have my phone set to the lowest setting due to photophobia after a papercut to the eyeball. Sometimes when it kicks up stink I have to wear sunglasses looking at the phone.

No, in Android it’s in settings… pretty obvious. Another Apple over complication of a basic function.

Screen brightness is in settings on an iphone too and its not over complicated. It says ‘display and brightness’ did you check before you commented?

I don’t get it… Swipe up, move brightness to the left, job done. I can barely see it when it’s all the way to the left. Just what does this complicated method do that the brightness adjuster doesn’t? I can’t be arsed going through all that to check.

Using this feature ages and it really is very useful darkens the screen much lower than the standard brightness setting allows makes reading at night much better. And it’s handy just triple clicking when you need to lower the light for whatever reason in cinema etc.
