FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS HAVE been announced for Irish sporting-tv talisman Bill O’Herlihy, who passed away peacefully yesterday.
The funeral will take place on Friday at 11.30am at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Foxrock, south Dublin, with burial following at Shanganagh Cemetery near Shankill.
The brief death notice is published on death notices site rip.ie:
“Peacefully at home; beloved husband of Hilary and loving father of Jill and Sally.
He will be sadly missed by his sons-in-law Johnny and Paddy, grandchildren Martha and Bill, Jack, Isla and Faye, his brothers Jack, David and Peter, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and his wide circle of colleagues and friends. Predeceased by his sisters Margaret and Mary.

I actually can’t believe he is gone. He was there so many important sporting events. He was always there in our living rooms. Sharing the joy of the win and the despair of defeat. I had hoped he would make it back to our screens in some way after his retirement. It’s like loosing an old friend almost.
Really sad to hear that Bill has died. He never got to enjoy his retirement. Rest In Peace Bill.

I wonder will there be a book of condolences someplace in Cork City? Be great if the journal could find that out.

I think there should be a national day of mourning for Bill he was an Irish icon.

I have no interest in football either, I still know who he is. You’d have to be blind not to. He’s been on Irish TV for over 40 years now covering the Olympics as well. You’ve clearly not read a newspaper since yesterday morning. His death has been covered on the front page of every national newspaper.
Why would I read newspapers? I get my news from here & the SKY News app.
