The executive producer of The Simpsons has revealed a shocking revelation about to hit Springfield as the show enters its 27th season.
Speaking to Variety, Al Jean said television’s most well-known couple are getting a divorce.
Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham [of Girls fame].
Their marriage has faced numerous challenges over the years, from the family nearly falling apart due to Marge’s gambling problem to Homer falling in love with co-worker Mindy.
Bart and Lisa even feared their parents were heading towards a divorce when Marge told Homer she could no longer trust him after he revealed the secrets of their marriage to essentially the entire town.
But no.
This sleeping condition is the final straw.
Jean also revealed this week that Bart will die in this year’s Halloween episode as Sideshow Bob finally exacts his revenge (but judging by the carry-on in those annual specials, Bart is likely to make a full recovery).
Season 27 will air on September 27.

in fairness Homer put up with some amount of Marges Shyte.
Remember when Homer got caught stealing all those watches from Sears? Well that’s nothing because Marge has a gambling problem.
They’re divorcing. Just like most TV viewers divorced that show about 12 years ago.
It just doesn’t cut the mustard anymore. Gone be the day when everything stopped for 30 minutes at 6pm every Sunday.

The show has sucked for about 8 years now and I hope to God they quit soon.
Will forever be one of the greatest shows of all time with so many classic episodes, but the absolute garbage its been producing for the last few years is seriously threatening to destroy the legacy the earlier seasons created.

I agree, but it has been trash for much longer than it has been the greatest show on television. So my anger has resentment as a foundation.
Oh those heady days of seasons 5 to 7. Near perfection! Have tried to watch more recent seasons….can’t do it.

Quality has well and truly dropped off but I can still usually find a good moment from any of the new episodes, usually involve secondary cast like moe, mr burns, milhouses dad

You know me Lisa I never apologise……..I’m sorry but that’s just the way I am.
I caught one or 2 episodes recently and wasn’t impressed at all. To give it its due It was cutting edge in its day and pushed the boundaries but I think later adult cartoons like family guy really made it irrelevant.

Desperate measures for a show desperately out of ideas and has been for a long time. I doubt any franchise has ever been milked as much as this one.

I haven’t watched the Simpsons in over 10 years. Way too many episodes to catch up on now.
trying to pull a family guy on us. Brian dies people go crazy Brian comes back viewing increases. publicity stunts to get viewing up nostalgic reasons. a major change in a show we grew up watching of course we will have a look at that episode. But times of for the Simpson’s.

To be fair it was not shite from the start. It was the first animated adult cartoon if it’s kind.
I remember when they would only show it in America fur a long time. Peopke were dying fur Europe to get the Simpsons. Then Sky one was the first TV channel for the UK and Ireland. People were obsessed with it. It’s still on tv because it’s ratings are excellent.
But I agree that it is time to call it a day at this point
