Student (14) arrested after teacher stabbed at UK school

The 50-year-old male teacher was stabbed shortly before 9am at a school in the city of Bradford.

Updated at 5pm

POLICE IN ENGLAND have arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder after a teacher was stabbed at a school in Bradford.

The male teacher (50) was stabbed at Dixons Kings Academy at 8.55am this morning.

He was taken immediately to hospital with a single stab wound to the stomach, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Deputy Superintendent Simon Atkinson from West Yorkshire Police confirmed the arrest to reporters, and said:

This is believed to be an isolated incident, and the police are continuing inquiries to establish the facts.

He added that all resources needed will be deployed to investigate “this on-going, and clearly serious, incident”.

The teenager fled the scene and was the subject of a manhunt this afternoon. He was reportedly arrested in the city centre.

Earlier this morning Atkinson said:

The rest of the school is continuing to operate as normal and local officers, including safer schools officers and members of the local area neighbourhood team, are currently at the school and are liaising closely with staff.

Glad the teacher is ok, however the book needs to be thrown at this (alleged) thug.

At 14 you know what is right and what is wrong and he should face the consequences of his actions.

Teachers in the classroom (especially in urban areas) are increasingly having to manage violence in the class room. A serious deterrent is required.

No, this what you get from bad parenting. This kids parents should be charged. Teachers beating kids wouldn’t be the answer.
But I’m not surprised to learn the religious nut job wants the right to legally beat children.

Corporal punishment often led to a bully of a teacher picking on a child. It’s not the answer.

Exactly parents who refuse to physically discipline their children and what’s happening the kids of these parents who refuse to physically discipline their children? They end up with adhd and they try to control them with drugs instead in order to prevent them from acting out. Even the founder who coined adhd admitted its not a real diagnosis. But else can you do when parents won’t give their kids a slap?

There is a sea of difference between a parent slapping a child and a teacher slapping a child.

I was punched by a teacher who picked on me emotionally when I was 6 years old. It all started with emotional abuse and being picked on until it accumulated to physical abuse one day. Corporeal punishment or not teachers will pick on a kid and it can grow to becoming physical as it did with me. Corporeal punishment to the Irish is hard to stomach because of the movies out there today that show how people abused this position. Everyone abuses their position and these need to be dealt with however that still don’t mean we shouldn’t bring corporeal punishment back into the school. When I look at the history books I see a youth who were literally given an adults beating by those who abused their position but I also see a youth that was hard working and tough both on the outside and in because they got the fair few slaps they did. Today we have a youth running around in saggy pants under the influence of hip hop and movies etc stabbing teachers and getting away with it. Just the other day I saw a teacher who was under physical attack by a Student and he punched the student in the face as a deterrent. Teachers are human and teachers deserve the right to at least defend themselves.

I was slapped by a teacher repeatedly because I learned the wrong spellings. I was in senior infants, I was 5. She hit me until I agreed with her that I hadn’t learned any spellings. I wasn’t a threat to her, she was a bully who was having a particularly bad day. Corporal punishment in schools is wrong, the teacher has too much power.

Ah Jane how much have I got to repeat this to you. I was given the same treatment without corporeal punishment being legalised at same age. I’ve already explained to you that people abuse their positions but these people need to be brought to justice. A slap on the hand is different to a beating and over doing it. Often students commit suicide because the emotionally bullying of a teacher. But whatever happens it’s obvious the youth of yesterday were a lot more respectable than the youth of the late 80s and 90s and it’s getting worse.

If we allow teachers to slap our kids we increase the chance of some teachers going over board, getting carried away or just down right abusing our children. Surely you see allowing the teacher even a small slap is a gateway to something more. I believe most parents who slap their kids are trying to teach them right from wrong. They love the child with all their heart and want what’s best for them. You cannot equate that with a teacher slapping a child in a class of 30 who won’t sit down and shut up.

Violence in schools is on the increase both in Ireland and the UK and is something that school managers must now address and deal with for everyone’s safety. Best wishes to the injured teacher and a speedy recovery.

Then maybe take your complaint up with the muppets who use the term “Asian” when what they really mean is something else, and not commenters who are merely pointed that out?
