Watch: CCTV footage of gas explosion after car ploughs into Australian café

Three people were critically injured.

MEDIA LIVE / YouTube

CCTV FOOTAGE HAS emerged of the moment a car crashed into a Queensland cafe causing a gas cylinder to explode.

Eighteen people were injured in the crash, three of them critically, when the car crashed into the cafe in a small town some 1,710 km north of Brisbane.

Most of the injuries were believed to be burns-related from the blaze that took an hour to extinguish.

CCTV footage that’s emerged since the incident shows the explosion from a number of different angles.

At the front, at least five people are been blown off their feet from the power of the blast and others are seen running for safety.

Behind the cafe, a man who appears to be unloading items from a truck also gets a lucky escape as the fireball shoots past him and he jumps back.

Some of the survivors have spoken to Australia’s 9 News. One, Gregory Hollam, was the only member of his respite care group in the café who was not hospitalised.

“[I’m] very lucky. At least somebody’s looking after me,” he said. “I [saw] the car capture on fire, so I run for the door, and the heat was on my back and I thought I was on fire.”

The ages of the injured range from a 15-year-old girl to a 75-year-old woman.

I heard this story in Australia and long before you published this it was known that a mother of two had died she was running the cafe for her parents who where away on holiday. If you’re write a story put all the facts.

May the seagulls rise and pluck your eyes and the water crush your shell,
And the natural gas will burn your ass and blow you all to hell.

It wasn’t a gas explosion that started this fire, they just threw too much shrimp on the barbie.
