A 103-YEAR-OLD man and a 91-year-old woman held their wedding in England today, becoming the oldest couple to get married in the world.
George Kirby and Doreen Luckie - together for 27 years – looked delighted as they tied the knot at a hotel in the seaside town of Eastbourne in the south of England, before close friends and family.
The bride wore a white dress with blue flowers while the groom, a former boxer, was dressed smartly in a suit and tie, and was in a wheelchair following a recent fall.
With a combined age of 194 years, the pair beat the previous record held by a French couple, Francois Fernandez and Madeleine Francineau, who had a combined age of 191 years.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Luckie said the couple had “no regrets” about not doing it earlier.
We didn’t want to bother about marriage before but eventually we did it.
The couple reportedly have seven children, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren between them.
They got engaged on Valentine’s Day this year, according to the Daily Mail.
“I didn’t get down on one knee, because I don’t think I would have been able to get back up,” the newspaper quoted Kirby as saying.

If any group deserves improved conditions it’s nurses. Nurses work an average of 1872 hours annually compared to 735 hours for a teacher yet it’s the teachers making all the noise….baffling!

@Soccer T’s: The idea that 1,440 people would need urgent hospital care out of a population of 4.5 million is hardly shocking.
They won’t need care if they are all dead but they will need undertakers. Another career option for you

You said die… yes they’ll obv have urgent care, but you did say they’d all die because of the strike. Now if your arbitrary number is on top of the norm – then yes, your statement is hyperbolic

Article is a it misleading – it’s a work to rule FROM Tuesday mArch 7th, with one day work stoppages (strike days) to be announced. It’s not a work to rule ON Tuesday March 7th!
Unless the INMO talks with the WRC lead to a resolution on safe staffing, recruitment and retention measures that work.
