Update: 14-year-old girl missing from Meath found safe and well

The teenager hadn’t been heard from for over 24 hours after taking a bus to Dublin – and her family said they were hugely concerned.

Updated at 7.10pm

A TEENAGE GIRL from Meath reported missing earlier has been found safe and well, gardaí have confirmed.

The family of Rena Woods had raised the alarm after she took a bus into Dublin yesterday.

The 14-year-old sent a text to her mother from McDonalds on Jervis Street at around 2pm, but hadn’t been heard from since.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie earlier, her sister Jo said her phone was off and they were hugely concerned.

Gardaí later released a missing persons appeal.

Flyers were also circulated in Ashbourne, Dublin and on social media.

It was confirmed in a statement issued shortly before 7pm that she had been found.

My heart goes out to you and your family on the loss of your beautiful sister…I can still remember the horror of the guard walking towards me to tell me that my 30 year old brother had died following a car crash….my life changed forever on 6th April 2014. All I can say is take it day by day and be gentle with yourself…

I’m so sorry for your loss and as I read your article, every step of your tragedy mirrored my own. I lost my little sister 13 yrs ago in an accident (she was 21 at the time) and not a day goes by that I don’t think about her. They might be gone, but are never forgotten. Take one day at a time and sometimes even that’s too epic a journey and I found I had to just get through hour by hour in those first few months. I wish you and your family peace and strength at this terrible time in your lives. Best regards.

You’re doing well to be going anywhere, don’t worry about how long it takes or how distracted you are. So long as you’re putting one foot in front of the other you’re doing great. Keep going. Lovely description of your sister.

Very touching and honest article! Brings back a lot of feelings! My own 20 year old cousin died following 7 and a half weeks in a self induced coma after being in a car accident! The thing that keeps me going is knowing that I want to live my life for her! She didn’t have the choice but I do! I live and keep happy for her!
